  • Spartapuss: shroom: CSB: Rick Wilson blocked me (a nobody) on Twitter.  Probably because I kept point out that he got rich making racist ads for against Max Cleland and Barack Obama.  The man is a professional snowflake.

Don't worry, I'm letting Lincoln Project do their thing.  I kept my trolling to Wilson's personal Twitter.

How rude to remind him of his direct actions leading the current situations!!! That man has a lotta money and is on the tee vee, and therefore is above reproach!
  • They don't get credit for putting out a fire they started.

So what if they're attacking Trump. Trump is just a rabid dog they thought they could control. Even if Trump loses the election the threat(the Republican party) remains.
  • RyansPrivates: Mods: can we ban WaPo links? I won't register on their site. Their ad-wall is a non-starter for me. If they played nice, I'd turn off ad blocker for them (like I do for fark.com).

Do you know how much it costs to subscribe to WaPo?  Ten farking dollars a month.  Hell, I'm retired now on Social Security, and I still am willing to pay that pittance to keep genuine journalism alive.

No. He's a vindictive snowflake, genius.
  • I sure can't wait for these threads when we're replacing "the enemy of my enemy" posts with quotes about not poking bears.

Good thing, too. I hear ol' Pa Bezos is barely able to run his sweatshops these days.

Also, you'll have to forgive me not knowing antiquated terms, but what's "retirement"?

If you have Amazon Prime I think you either pay five per month, or you get six months free then it's five per month.

The offer I'm seeing is $29 for a year.
  • "The Lincoln Project's plan for preserving the union: Drive Trump out of office by driving him nuts"

    **Calculation route**
    **Error, already at your destination**

/It's a VERY short drive, is all I'm saying.
  • Remember...these are just the figureheads

They've got to be funded by a large amount of people
Cause they're buying major ad time.

Many conservatives anonymously funding anti T marketing
That's a significant thing in play

I wish they'd play in the daylight
  • I honestly dont care about them attacking biden when this is all over. These ads are built in such a way that they hit the GOPers first. They wont work on Biden cuz hopefully he wont do half the dumbshiat trump does. if he does, fark him too. First things first tho. Trump. Dont let the perfect be the enemy of the good, or at least effective.
  • I, for one, look forward to a time when we quit wasting energy arguing about the motivations of the sell-swords that we don't have to pay.

I'm willing to go to a website that does a good job and leave ads on for my eyeballs (like I do for fark and few other sites). I'm not willing to add another userid and datapoint to the feed the machine. $10 a month per service adds up quick (as cord cutters are finding out).

Good for you for paying for it but I think the policy here at Fark should be: don't link to paywall/trialwall sites. It's annoying to click on links and have ambush pages pop up in front of you. I know why Fark does it: they probably get something via referrer. Doesn't mean I have to like it or agree with it.
  • blastoh: I'm actually done with the Lincoln Project.
Their videos are great and exact what Donald Trump deserves.  But there are two things at play here.

First, these people laid the groundwork for Trump.
Second, they are partially doing what they are doing because they (especially Rick Wilson) get off on being assholes.   Wilson particularly has repeatedly posted about how much fun he has had in making these videos and in writing his attacks in Trump .

Third, these people are grifters who will follow the money.   Yes they realized there is a better long time future in fighting Trump and backing him, but that is it.

See the Western Allies and the USSR in WWII....

Don't care. Any port in a storm.  This is a bad storm. I know who these people are. They are our allies today. We can save the fussing with them for later. Right now, we need them.

They're not your allies, they are co-belligerents. Attack a target you both hate. Don't give them any credit for doing the right thing or take any advice, or give them any money. Let them fight dot gif.
  • aleister_greynight: AAAAGGGGHHHH: As I said in an earlier thread, people who get their panties wet about The Lincoln Project need to be reminded about the tale of the Frog and the Scorpion.

    [Fark user image 550x425]

They'll turn those big guns on Biden the moment he's sworn in. Count on it.

They may be only wanting to get rid of Trump now because the oaf sucks all the oxygen out of the room and screws up their chances to seek their own elections in 22-24. And if they get back into a majority power, it's back to the same old tax breaks for millionaires/f*ck everybody else platform. As far as they're concerned, Trump's only sin was that he says GOP's quiet parts out loud.

So you would prefer Trump being reelected?  Because those all sound like problems for after Trump is gone.

And using the article's own "firemen" bullsh*t metaphor, I'd like to hope those firemen arrived to put out the fire once and for all and NOT there just to burglarize the place of all it's valuables once the fire's been put out.

If your house was on fire you would turn away people with buckets of water, because they weren't in a firetruck?

    a) *if your house were on fire - it is a subjunctive.

    b) would you distract  the people with buckets by blowing them? I think AAAAGGGGHHHH makes a valid point. these are republicans and are demonstrably only in it for their own gain. but fun to watch them fight amongst themselves.they know trump is a bad horse to back but will turn as soon as he is gone. rich people wanting tax breaks.
  • HerptheDerp: What function The Lincoln Project should be serving is teaching Democrats how to have an "Attack Dog" wing for their ads.

Dems should be running ad campaigns on two tracks, 1 build up your guy/gal, "Our person is the best, here's all their policy, here they are feeding homeless and fighting for freedom, vote for us"

and then the 2nd wing which functions like TLP.

The first group should denounce the second group, and say they don't publicly approve of such tactics, while secretly high fiving them in the back.

And they should be preparing for the day when they need to fight against TLP.

Work alongside them now while our interests align, but do not trust them. Never trust them. Wait for the day when they turn against us and be ready to hit them back twice as hard.
  • AAAAGGGGHHHH: The Lincoln Project also reminds me of the "what if?" scenario where Claus von Stauffenberg was successful and the bomb did kill Hitler.

Yeah, Hitler would be gone, but there still would be Nazis running Germany!

You got 10 smarts for that dumb comment. Sad. Trying to kill Hitler was a waste of time?  Trying to stop Trump won't help because Republicans still exist.

    Fark needs a dumb tag.
  • BMFPitt: thorpe: WE just need to get him sworn in.

If you want to make "we" as small of a group as possible, we won't.

    I don't.

  • Bennie Crabtree: Those of you who think the Lincoln project is good should play a few rounds of the card game Secret Hitler. Fascists pose as supporters of liberal democracy by doing things that are democratic, and slipping their fascism into the mix. Secret Hitler is an amazing game for abstracting the tipping point of democracy in a way that illustrates the way democracy is co-opted.

That game kinda kills your point.  Because if in the end, the Fascists actually ensure that Hitler is not elected Chancellor, then the liberals win the game. Sure, that only matters until we get through the November election, but it's still the whole "game" right now.

I'm perfectly happy cheering on Fascist players in Secret Hitler that are ensuring that everyone is aware of who Hitler is, and making sure no one votes for him. Once we win the "game" (Nov) we can stop cheering them on.  Until then, they're incredibly useful.  They're not heroes, and they shouldn't get a dime of our money.  But as long as they push against Trump - and create the down ballot support as a second order effect - I'm quite happy with them.
  • Oh look it's EyeBot failing again.
  • thorpe: Oh look it's EyeBot failing again.

LOL cry more, you thirsty doofus.
  • Mail Order American Husband: Mentat: The only value Lincoln Project brings is as cannon fodder to draw his wrath.

They are experts at manipulating republican voters and are using it against Trump and his supporters. I'd say that's pretty valuable. Sure they're still assholes, but when it comes to fighting fascism history has shone that a temporary and uneasy alliance with people you hate can get the job done.

There's no evidence they're accomplishing anything more than annoying Trump, and Sarah Cooper does that more effectively for a lot less money.
