  • Probably akin to an exorcism for Baldwin.  One last burst of insane buffoonery before ridding himself of the character for good.
  • So you gotta pay to see / hear it?
    No thanks.
Baldwin is only marginally a better person than trump.
  • Baldwin's did a hilarious and amazing job as Trump. That being said, after last week? I don't think I can stomach any humor about him any more.

Mel Brooks made a career out of making fun of Hitler.  There's something to be said for mockery as a political tool.  Being able to laugh at someone diminishes their power..

Yeah, even though Trump is a clown, I never really found him funny. More pathetic with occasional unease like Joaquin Phoenix's Joker or sometimes a little scary with occasional narm like Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise.

Baldwin's portrayal is pretty good and I have laughed at it, it just isn't funny anymore because there have been very serious repercussions from this circus, like the erosion of our democracy or the 3 or 4 thousands of Americans that died from covid today.

Trump is many things worthy of mocking, but he isn't Hitler. Enough already.

I never said he was.  You're reading something into my comment that wasn't intended.

My apologies. Just ready to move on. That being said, yes humor can most certainly help diffuse politically charged situations (and people).

The proper sequence of events is,
First beat the living shiat out of them,
THEN laugh them out of town.

No worries.  I know there are a lot of hyperbolic comments here about him here (I've engaged in some myself).  My point was more that if someone like Hitler could be successfully mocked (and not even with time passed - Chaplin lampooned him pretty thoroughly in 1940 when his armies were rampaging through Europe), Trump should be fair game.
  • I'll save my laughs for his actual farewell "address".
  • Baldwin in Trump makeup is half the gag.

I think Trump's epic collapse will actually keep him alive comedically longer. People made fun of Nixon for a long, long time. Trump makes Nixon look like Bryant Gumbel.

Agreed. Any political figure should be. No doubt we'll continue to see more of it in the next 4 years.

    Well, it isn't over yet.

For Americans, Hitler's actions killed a few hundred thousand of us. (Hitler sucked for the rest of the world a whole lot more than in the US).

Trump has brought the US closer to civil war than it has been since 1865 and of course he completely bungled Covid. I could easily see the final body count of internal conflict plus 'half' of Covid deaths exceeding WW2 death in Europe and the Atlantic.

You're talking the most deadly war in history. That's 75 or more million people.

    75 million or more...

I was just talking about US deaths from Hitler. I even mentioned how he was much much worse for the rest of the world.

The whole thing is worth watching but go to 4:35 if you want to see Mel Brooks speechless when discussing Nazis.

That's Germany & Japan. Can't blame Hitler for what happened in the Pacific.

About 106k died in the Pacific theater so about 300k in Europe, Mediterranean, Africa, and the Atlantic.

Ah I see. I misunderstood the number. Thanks for clarifying.
