  • I'd give money only if it was with Mike or Joel.
  • wegro: RiffTrax = The MST3K 'Mystery Science Theater 3000' stars today!

Well, the best of the stars at least. The Mike/Kevin/Bill era was the greatest.

The dollar amount was going up super fast earlier. I don't think they're gonna have any problem reaching the initial $2 million goal and flying right past it. They are almost at a million and have 30 days left. Let's hope they get to the $5.5 million so we get 12 new episodes and 12 shorts. I donated $100. I'm a big fan. I've seen all the episodes, including the first season with the Kermit the Frog Tom Servo voice. I also saw them LIVE in DC when they were here. Watched the video, don't like Servo's frosted head. His head should be clear. I also don't like the new robots Mr. Waverly and Growler. It's like bringing in Cousin Oliver or Ted McGinley. They aren't needed.

I could go for a season of Emily from the Live tour. I've only seen a few riffs she's done for online stuff, but I've enjoyed her take on it.

    Same.

I really did give Season 11 a try, but the fact that it's not voiced and puppeted "live" when in the theory, along with the fact that they never really seemed to understand that you don't have to have a joke every other second basically killed it for me.

Give me Season 10's "Hamlet" any day over that

I enjoy the new seasons okay, but they're much less good than the old show or Rifftrax. The biggest difference to me is that the new stuff sounds like three people throwing out whatever jokes they can while Rifftrax (and old MST) had the feel of three people hanging out watching the same movie. The reactions and interplay between riffers makes a huge difference.

I thought her acting in the last Turkey Day stuff was really wooden, but I'm willing to give her time to grow into it.  The new group got a lot better in Season 12 when they figured out enunciation and smooth delivery.
  • From a few Halloweens ago, probably the year of the Netflix reboot.

  • A bit disappointed in the reward levels. The annual Rifftrax Kickstarters have been great at giving backers free extra content, even just chipping in a few bucks.

Also, do we really need a new platform?  Just partner with Rifftrax for distribution already. They even have a subscription service already established now.

  • They are ... okay, but I forwarded to my brother who is a huge fan who has money and a kiddo he hooked on these.

Good luck nerds. I hope y'all get more of these

This is why I actually prefer Mike to Joel.  Joel was like a father to the bots, so they were always sort of "penned in".

Mike and the bots are just buddies watching movies while trapped in space.  The interpersonal stuff is much more relatable.

Agreed, although I think they may also be a product of the writing just getting better and better over the course of the show.  I also think the Mike years had on average a better movie selection.

I sure hope this reboot does better than the last as far as movies. Season 12 had 6 episodes, and a third of those were from Asylum.
  • Do more shorts and 50's sci-fi. Enough with modern low-budget boring schlock
  • Sometimes it's good when TV shows end.

    Yes pls
  • I loved it just as much as the old stuff. It was just different and I LIKED that it was different. It had some clunkers, It had some ok ones and it had some classics. Just like the original show. Season 2, horrible Asylum movie aside, was definitely a step up from the first in writing and delivery.

Will gladly toss them a few bucks. More MST3K is a good thing!

/for real though, no more Asylum movies. They are beyond redemption and entertainment.

That's unfortunate.  Asylum can be amusing, but it's also unsatisfyingly low hanging fruit as far as riffing goes

I mean, he was a little off it was only 1 but it was still pretty bad. There are more than enough bad movies out there that aren't cynical cash grabs that Asylum does. Even though the riffs were good in places, it just can't overcome being subjected that specific version of trash.

My bad. For some reason I was remembering Lords of the Deep as Asylum instead of Corman. I haven't rewatched the newer seasons much, aside from Mac and Me and Ator.
  • I've been thinking about the rifftrax subscription. Anyone have it?
I watch a lot of mst3k and riff on YouTube and prime.
I'm surprised it took them this long to get this up and running. The pandemic year would have been a great year to just record voice over jokes.

Eh, I suspect there are still hard feelings between Joel and some of crew at Rifftrax.

Some of the original crew didn't work together real well from back in the Best Brains days and that might be part of the reason they're not partnering up.
