  • Mao was ALWAYS ready for a nuclear attack.  He started the Korean War to get nukes.  Nukes were all the man could think about.  So  it's hardly surprising he was preparing for a nuclear attack.  That's how he spent the last half of his life.
  • We should always be ready, because it's a mad, mad, mad, mad world after all.
  • The Sino Soviet Split and Sino-Vietnamese war are proof that domino theory was bullshiat, and Marxist ideology was not the only driving force of 20th century revolutionary movements in Asia.
  • Kissinger supported the true torchbearers of the revolution, not those institutionalist Khrushchevite traitors!

Marxism wasn't the only driving force behind 20 century revolutionary movements, true... one does not need to be Communist to want something better than a mix of warlordism and end-stage capitalism.

However, Communist leadership was eager to force their authoritarianism on everyone, whether it was wanted generally in the country or not.  Communist doctrine itself isn't completely based on fact.

Truth is twisted in order to serve the authority best.

The GOP has learned the same lessons all too well and use Faux News in the same way that the Kremlin used Pravda, as a propaganda spreader.  (Only with more red-state idiocy thrown in)

The differences in ideology leading to the splits aren't unlike the rifts that occur in major religions, and are taken just as much to heart among the different believers.  But most of the versions of Communism included the drive to force everyone to live under that authority, whether wanted or not.  And they were making fast progress in the late 1940s and 1950s, enough to strongly get the attention of remaining nations that did not want to be forced to adopt Communism, such as had happened in Eastern Europe.

    Way to go, moderators.

  • Yes, and that also happened with right-wing dictators. The fact is that dictators are a consequence of democracy, according to Machiavelli, as powerful men take over from their divided enemies. The doctrine of Marxist-Leninism was specifically turning Marxism on its head by declaring a vanguard of Communist Party members that would force the issue rather than letting it gradually work itself out. There's a reason we called them 'Banana Republics' because their democratic mechanisms were subverted for the benefit of fruit companies and dictators rose to the top of the ensuing energetic forment. The only thing preventing such things in democracies is the continued prevalence of liberal norms conducive to business as usual such as the rule of law. Whenever things turn to matters of force dictators will take their kick at the can and name the resulting reversion to monarchical govt whatever gives them legitimacy and keeps them in power.
  • Yeah the hard line anti-commies were pretty damned big on China for a while.
