Daedalus27: In that 10 seconds from arrival to shooting the suspect/victim who was attempting to stab those other girls, how much de-escalation could have occurred? The suspect/victim bullrushes one, ignores anything going on, and is lunging at the girl in pink with a knife when she is shot. If this was another country, there would be a story about multiple victims and officers being stabbed and who knows how serious the injuries would be or potential deaths. I am not saying it isn't tragic that the suspect/victim was shot, and that I wish there wasn't other outcomes, but I also don't want to see the girl in pink dead because the officers can't act to protect her life while trying to land a taser shot on her or have to run up and tackle the suspect/victim.
This wasn't the case of poor training or tactics used. This was an officer coming on a life and death scene and acting to protect others from a person intending their death or serious injury. If there has to be someone injured or killed, it should be the aggressor attempting to harm others. Given the way the suspect/victim was lunging and stabbing at the girl in pink on the car hood, the officers only choice was to shoot the suspect/victim or allow the girl in pink to stabbed. IMO, he made the correct choice however tragic that may be.
I think it's important to look at how the other people are behaving. Nobody else is acting like this is a life-or-death scenario. It's just a fight. The girl in pink is just hanging out. The dude on the right gets mad at the cops for shooting, because to him this was a manageable situation.

Yeah, yeah, clearly a massive exaggeration but sometimes the level of police stupidity in some of these shootings feels just like that.

That's a subjective question to an objective response. Focus on facts. Do you deny that:
She was armed.
Going on the Twitter videos posted in this thread, she had a knife at worst.
She was attacking multiple individuals.
No, that is not clear from the execution videos I've seen.
The situation as described by multiple people in this thread prior to the press conference does not match the video evidence.
I saw a young woman getting gunned down by police. That matches perfectly with the video evidence.
If the perpetrator fails so hard at policing that his only response to crime is to kill people, should he have a badge and gun?

Those other girls should get severe punishment. At least 50% of the entire thing is their fault, if they had stayed the fark home amid a FREAKING PANDEMIC instead of going to this girl house to bully her, she would still be alive. Their shiatty bully behavior led to a girl being murdered. I hope they keep that guilt for the rest of their lives.

I just have my concealed carry and by law I am justified to shoot another person who is attempting to murder a third person. As someone who has several friends that work with troubled youth:
The body cam footage is absolutely damning. Any of the responding officers could have tackled the knife. That is what you do in crisis situations. They can fight all they want with fists, if you can approach in your puncture proof vest and grab the arm controlling the blade, you have immediately de-escalated the situation. He had back up officers to assist. A knife wound? Very unlikely to be lethal. 4 Gun shots after stepping away from the two scrapping that landed at. his. feet.

What video did you watch? The one I saw people are running around screaming, pushing people to the ground.
Oh and the girl in the pink "just hanging out" has her back against a car while another person is stabbing at her multiple times with a knife.

In england, knife crime is rampant. Officers are unarmed. Officers are combat trained to subdue individuals armed with blades. You have a club meant for this, you have chemical sprays, you have tazers, you have overwhelming physical presence. You have combatives that you train and practice because policing is your trade.
This is a tragedy. I guess when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I didn't see her stab anyone, but the quality was terrible. A video of a video playing on a bunch of video screens. Hopefully they'll release the raw footage soon along with videos that other people there were recording.

Daedalus27: The police officer didn't have that information. He has a girl being thrown to the ground in front of him and the suspect/victim swinging a knife wildly toward another girl. It doesn't matter how peaceful or calm it had been before he arrived, he had the suspect/victim attempting to murder another girl with a knife and had to act.
I looked at the bodycam video against my better judgement. I'm not exactly sure what you saw, but the woman in the pink outfit was not involved in the fight. She walks by the officer as soon as he walks up to the yard. Then, the victim and others who are fighting come into the cop's camera view. When the victim got up, the officer already had his gun drawn. It looks like the girl was trying to regain her balance after rolling around on the ground and she was leaning on the car.
The woman in pink is lucky to not have been shot as well because they were right on each other. If the victim was indeed trying to stab her, the woman in pink would have been stabbed before the officer shot his first shot. That's just my take on it. I'm not making any judgement whether any of this was justified or not.

If only we knew their secrets. In this case even a taser would have immediately dropped the girl and ended the fight without killing anyone, but the first thing our cops do is yank out their guns. A bunch of kids are fighting? Better point your gun at them immediately and get ready to blow them away.
