vilesithknight: This is a bad situation. Made worse by a video that doesn't begin to tell the story. I live in Columbus. Local news outlets are telling the story, but national media is not. 3 girls showed up to Bryant's house to jump her for something that happened at school. Bryant then grabbed a kitchen knife to defend herself. I ask, wtf would you do if 3 people showed up at your house to jump you?
Assuming they are not breaking into the house, I would call the police and stay inside until the police arrived. Calling the police, and then rushing outside with a knife would be pretty much the last thing on my mind.
And I think my answer to your first question pretty much negates every other statement that you made.
As does the body cam footage, as well as the lying account from the witness who said the knife was on the ground.
You are rushing to judgement here, and disseminating untrue statements as fact. And that's very, very dangerous at this point in our history.

She didn't have a knife, it was on the ground.
She called the police.
She was being attacked.
The facts:
They haven't released the name of who called 911.
The girl had a knife.
The girl swung that knife at two people, on video.
The girl refused to de-escalate ("Get down")
The girl refused to stop attacking (not defending).
Folks, someone is dead. Racing to conclusions won't make them come back to life. If you truly want justice. If you truly want change. Focus on the facts.

No. Because the actual numbers don't fit the narrative. WaPo found that blacks were 23% of the killings. Sure, blacks are only 13% of the population.
But when you consider the % of murders and violent crimes committed by blacks (and that isn't racism, it's just actual farking reality) it's practically a miracle AND a testament to police work that only 23%, and 230 are killed by police every year.

I don't what you mean. I want police reform so all members of society feel safe turning to them for help. If my child is having a mental breakdown and is a danger to themselves, I want to be able to call someone without the fear that it would result in my child's death.

The girl with the knife ran up to the girl in pink (who was nowhere near her), pinned her against a car and was in the process of swinging her knife hand toward her. That is the opposite of "defensive."

Bolded/underlined the word you were having problems with. If police training focuses on these rare incidents, that is one of the reasons so many unarmed people are getting wrongfully shot.

It wasn't. Period. No police shooting is justified. This is especially true when the dead person didn't have a gun themselves.
Unless we can be sure that the police are responsible with their guns, they should not be carrying them. And they have shown over and over and over again, that they are not responsible.

Police sometimes have to shoot somebody to save their lives or the lives of others, as in this case. Tragic, yes, but justified.
We can agree to disagree. But it seems to me that most of the shootings we hear about are more cops panicking than being justified because their lives were in danger.

I for one am sick of hearing those stories. So I stand by what I said. Disarm the farking cops. Once they prove they can be trusted, let them be armed again.

Yeah, these cases need to get the video out pronto so we can see what's really going on. You can basically assume whichever side is in the wrong will lie so there's not much to learn until we have evidence.
Actually, we need to stop having knee jerk reactions. There will be all the time in the world to get pissed off. Not sure if you've noticed, but our nation's "journalists" have pretty much forgotten how to get anything at all right, especially in the first 24-48 hours. They just don't care, and neither do their consumers, evidently.

Kuroshin: There is literally no piece of evidence that could justify this. None. No explanation that could make this reasonable. None. There is no jump involved in coming to the conclusion that she was murdered without justification. None.
I can think of a justification. The basic scenario we have is that she was being attacked by several girls and was defending herself with a knife. What if the cops show up, the attackers back down and she goes after one of them?

Across the board, those who train police officers AND military say you aim for center mass. Trying to hit the leg, or an arm, of a moving target is pretty near impossible and only increases the chances that the shot will go wide, possibly hitting something or someone else.
When someone is actively trying to injure or kill another, as was the case in the body cam video, you have very little time to react. To say this officer should have shot the knife-wielding girl in the leg is being purposely disingenuous, at best.
Or maybe you have some other agenda here, I don't know.
Actually, now that I've typed out this response to you, I'm hit with the realization that anyone who says police in this country should be completely disarmed should not be taken seriously. But I'm posting this anyway, because I've already typed it out.
If that officer had no tbeen armed, the girl in pink would have been injured and quite possibly dead. If you see something else in that video, you, like a typical Trumper, have been driven around the bend by anger and hatred. Whether that anger and hatred is justified doesn't matter to me. Your beliefs are more important to you than the evidence of your senses.
