  • Will it be inflation linked or will this be one of those ice cream cone in the pocket laws in 50 years?

    Nah, it'll come to be known as the "Bootlegger Full Employment Act of 2021".

    Did that happen in Scotland when they introduced minimum pricing?

    /I find it hard to believe we're more larcenous than the Scots
    //Similar levels, sure

  • FTA: "Alcohol consumption has remained at about 11 litres per person since 2015.
    That is the equivalent of 116 bottles of wine or 445 pints of beer per adult every year."

    Either Ireland's population is mostly children, units of measurements are all topsy turvey there, or I have completely lost my grasp on math.

    I think they are measuring consumption of pure alcohol only, not the other parts of the drinks.
  • well you know it is all bs when the first two "reasons" are unrelated things.

    we want to make booze a minimum price, and a good rando reason to chage locals more is, becasue not locals would come here and buy booze from us and we don't want their monye.

    "we don't want their monye" as in no one says this, so it has nothig to do with why locals are being subject to fixed market minimum prices instead of open market compeditive pricing.

    This is someone has a jam about preventing alcoholics or cutting back on how many of them there can be, by targeting poorer people and creating an artificial barrier to entry for them alone, while anyone with enough monye is still free to booze up all they can afford to.

    trying to have controls in place for a civilization need to affect everyone the same, or they are not actually controls on the culture/civilization, they are a form of hierarchically enforced haves and have nots.

    Govt enforced cost barrier minimums is not helping anyone, it's just enforcing a POV of classism on the people subject to such laws.
