Well they didn't sell out really, not like sony is now in charge of discord PC dev or anytime like that.
Sony basiaclly understands a pure private walled garden can't stay compeditive against the open market garden, unless you keep your target demographic small enough.

So of course it makes sens for them to want to find a connection between their walled play station garden and the open market garden. And a comms app is probably the best path on that front.

but why would disc want to dump a pile of cash into just the play st6ation's walled garden peeps on their own?
No, Sony has to chip in on the funding for the dev of making someone's open market app function right in their walled garden.

And this seems to make way more sense than buying such a company up just to get that work done when you can partner fund it instead.

my beef is of course that only within specific game genres, do Con-Slows and PCs actually play the same game to bother wanted to play with each other.
A head shot % stat, with an aim bot assistant is not  comparable to a head shot % stat from pure manual player aim skill no assist. So those players playing together is really them make believing they are even playing the same game in the first place, and i guess Temporarily Suspension the Disbelief is what makes it work for them.

I can see a Con-Slow trying to supplant multiple devices at once as the in home go to center of entertainment.
But the whole "cross play" idea is mostly a sham as those payers are just literately playing games with entierly different mechanics that are not reasonable comparisons as a game play.

  • Hey good for them I remember when discord was just starting off.
  • Cool, was just trying to figure out how I could cross play warzone with my cousin from my PC and his PS5.

I've never tried to do it and was terrified of in game chat because of all the Harry Potter Dudley's out there who just try and make everyone around them as miserable as they are. You know the ones, they'll kill someone else right before you kill them, but you're an arse and should die because you just killed them.  Big brain logic on those chuds.

/Either those guys or the guy reading the bible, the one with the horrible EDM pumped so loud it distorts your headphones, etc.
//I bound my mute button to the period.

Crossplay isn't too bad.  And you could always just do duos and the voice chat doesn't really matter at that point because you'd only hear you and them, and enemy death coms.

Even when I play with randoms other than the vulgar comments from people's deaths and the end game nonsense where everyone wants to scream the n word as long as possible for everyone still in the lobby, have been pretty chill overall.

XBox is a bit easier just because of the xbox game bar or whatever on PC which is what I usually do with a few friends of friends, but has one of the absolute shiattiest voice chat quality.  So Discord on ps5 might be amazing because discord's audio quality is generally amazing.

Oh, and I forgot, you can individually mute team members if they fall under one of the above umbrellas even if you group with more than you and your cousin.  From PC just tab to bring up the score board, then there's a prompt over everyone's names on how to select and mute them, I think it might be ALT by default but it might be different.
  • Great, now you'll only be able to talk to Discord users who are on the same platform as you.

I let binded it to the period on my keyboard so it's easy and fast to find.

I just figured out how to cross play.  It was pretty easy I just never looked that closely.

You just go to party and click on add friends.  Here's what I didn't see, the drop down arrow next to Activision account, so you can just choose battlenet, Sony or Xbox, then I put my cousins gamer tag in and we are set now.

Cool thing about discord is you can also stream the video so people you've partied up with who aren't in your game can watch until you're partied up in the game.

I've never done this because my buddies I play with have 6 mb connection on the edge of civilization in southern Alaska.
  • That's pretty cool.  It will definately make group chats a lot better.
  • Say farewell to anything over a PG rating on Discord then.
