  • Nintendo is a sneakily shady company historically - I think back in the 50s or 60s, they had Yakuza ties, back when they were a playing card company. They may have cleaned things up by the time they started making video games, but they were pretty ruthless even back in the NES era with third party developers.

  • Of all the top notch loser things that video game websites do, looking at Nintendo's motherfarking court files has to be the top of the heap.

This is the ultimate, no one farking cares about this shiat nonsense that they write about because their series of life failures found them chained to a laptop and ordered to blog until they could blog no more

Meanwhile, I'm on a Discord server where people are eating this drama up. Not my cup of tea either but I think you're wildly inaccurate just plain wrong.

this is all part of the Epic vs Apple lawsuit that's going on... and while you may not particularly care which of the two giant corporations beats the other giant corporation... it's very much going to result in changes to how the games business works.

So yeah, I don't see why a site about video games wouldn't want to report on the largest suit ever filed in the history of the medium.
  • Look. Don't investigate dem Eye-talian plumbers to hard.  The Capuezzi family doesn't like it when their friends get investigated. Capeesh.

I'd love to see Konami get dragged into this.
  • This is a very real, very practical concern for any Japanese corporation in general and any tech-related company especially.

A lot of the Zaibatsus that it's rather easy to find yourself entangled with doing business in Japan either include among their assets or outright originate from national criminal syndicates, writing your contracts carefully to make sure you're opting out of the "murder and protection rackets" part of your partner's business model is standard and constitutes basic self-preservation for a Japanese corporation.

Actually, there are a number of clicks to harvest from everyone in the industry who is keen to review competitor documentation.  Other information shared, which was an inadvertent leak, included EGS user acquisition data, which allows for considerable leverage in future negotiations for EGS exclusivity, or any platform exclusivity.

There are a lot of fascinating tidbits being exposed which are incredibly useful across various facets of the industry.

Because it doesn't matter to YOU doesn't mean it doesn't matter to ANYONE.
  • For any movie or video game you ask "how did this get made?" the answer is, drug money. Laundering drug money is how your favorite cult movie got made.
  • Everyone knows that the Mario brothers are made men who are running a protection racket on the Mushroom Kingdom.

Came here to say this. It's not like america where we think of the mafia being involved in low level, shady dealings at warehouses, docks, etc. The Yakuza takes over corporate boards.

Them rat bastards need to be dragged away from making pachinko games and back to making Castlevania stuff and Contra games

They weren't ruthless; they were cautious. They had just wagered their own existence on a hunch they could revive an industry that had very recently been smashed into irrelevence by unrestrained 3rd party developers.
  • Anti-yakuza clauses/statements show up all the time in Japan; it's practically standard legal boilerplate.
