  • Good for Disney.

I am certain Disney has something in place for the Nazi Plague Karens who will do their level best to be belligerent and play victim for their camera while inside the park.

I'd love to see Disney offer discounts for fully vaccinated people. Or offer vaccines at the entrance.
  • Ha, good job Disney.

And, good luck DeSantis fighting that group... Disney was the most successful totalitarian society *before* it bought Star Wars and Marvel.  Now, it just prints money, and has legions of lawyers only the IRS can contemplate... in IRS's glory years.

I haven't been to the parks since COVID but I have gone to Disney Springs.  They don't fark around.
  • "Keep the change, ya filthy animal!"
  • It's a Small Governor After All
  • Just a reminder of who really runs the show in Florida.

Disney isn't stupid, they don't want any bad press.
  • Poor cast members are gonna have to put up with even more angry guests yelling about how it's not a state mandate anymore. Hopefully security continues to support them.
  • Remember these are the same people that say we need to learn to live with school shootings.

Disney is ready, willing and able to ban you and your entire party if one of you acts up. That is powerful leverage.
  • "We've gotta move 4.3 million more Mickey Masks!"
  • Watching Disney deny entry outside or eject non-compliant guests inside will be more entertaining than riding Space Mountain.
  • MICKEY TO TALLAHASSEE: DROP DEAD
  • The number trespass and assault arrests, and blanket theme park bans of Trumpers, MAGAts, Libertarians™, etc. is about to skyrocket.  Which means in a few months it might be a pleasant place to vacation again.
  • Disney knows that literally the only thing keeping the parks open now is their policies & procedures around preventing the occurrence of a spreader event traced to the parks.

Second there is one, if there is one, they'll get shut down hard. They aren't stupid, and they aren't letting up on ptoyocols until it's safe to do so. Until then 1/3rd of the business is way better than no business.

I'm all in on snipers  but I have to think of the children!
  • Disney has now managed to achieve the barest possible minimum level of responsibility required for basic financial self-preservation as a large employer.

    Good... for them, I guess?
  • it shouldn't be a surprise that private business can keep whatever policies they have in place. I think this was explicitly mentioned... oh right, fark politics. carry on
  • Disney has the clout to tell guests to do as they are told or GTFO. They can have security staff stop the maskholes and toss them out. Most other FL businesses can't do that. They'll have to put up with every worthless derper making a scene or becoming violent when a small biz like a bar or restaurant tries to maintain the health rules on its own.

Man, if Disney offered even just 5-10% off vacation packages in exchange for proof of vaccination for the entire party that'd push a lot of idiots to get it done.
  • This is OUR kingdom (principality?) and we will have masks by royal decree from the princesses.

They could set up a webcam, put it on video-on-demand, and charge whatever they wanted.
  • I just lost it picturing some Karen trying to pick a fight there only for Mickey to keel over, coughing and gesticulating wildly at her. "Look, that anti-vaxxer just gave Mickey Mouse COVID!"

/Why yes, she IS farking Goofy
  • Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is taking executive action to suspend all local COVID-19 emergency mandates immediately

At a federal level and in my state, the executive cannot overrule the local health authority to rescind health orders.  Does Florida allow this type of unilateral behavior?

and is issuing an executive order to outlaw all local COVID-19 emergency mandates in the state effective July 1.

Governors cannot typically enact law from the bench, as it were, but Florida is a silly place, so maybe this is somehow enforceable as new law?

In other news... We're seeing another fine example of "small government" Republicans at a state level dictating what local governments can or can't do.
