Far from it. I was in Asda twenty minutes ago. Shelves were full.

There are driver shortages, but the same shortages are happening in the US and across Europe. There's a headline just a few places higher about the issues in the US.

/Yes I know that was a Pistols reference. Unfortunately some people really believe the BS being spread about what's happening here.

Like anyone is going to believe anything you have to say on this topic. No one with more then 3 braincells thinks Brexit was a good idea, and your delusional thinking that it is a good thing is almost sad at this point. I hope you get better soon.

One more than the Americans on Fark who keep on insisting the UK is screwed, we're all starving to death etc.

And I think you missed my point. I wasn't saying there are no problems. I was pointing out, with links, that the exact same driver and staffing problems are happening across the USA and Europe. Fark has had plenty of threads in the last few weeks about staff shortages in the US, with plenty of "Well pay them more!" comments.
    Taco Bell.
    Starbucks.
    Restaurants in general.

But the exact same issue in the UK?

    Brexit!
  • It's been a while since I actively* participated here, I was just checking the level. :)

It's true that the 'pingdemic' is being blamed for it *all* right now, but it'd be disingenuous to claim it's just overly-restrictive government health practices causing all this, and so we should relax the rules.  (No, not you, it's all over the press from the Daily Fail right to the lazily-incompetent BBC.)

We had a driver shortage before the pandemic, but seasonal demand was met by EU nationals, right?  Brexit initially made it just a bit unattractive to come over here, but the increase in paperwork alone caused businesses across the board to either reconsider the EU relationships or cave in altogether.

Sure the pandemic then made it *desperately* unattractive to come here, and driver training hasn't caught up and won't for some time, but to say earlier this year we're 20,000-50,000 down and it's doubled to 100,000 now is...

Back to the point I came in: Maybe I simply fell for the propaganda, the photos of fruit and veg on continental supermarket shelves and part-empty ones with redistributed stock in the ones my wife and I've been in.  Dunno.

/*kinda participated, I know my level

Followup, FWIW: the nearest Morrisons didn't seem to have any issues earlier this afternoon, at least no shelves obviously empty, no fridge or freezer units broken.
