  • Afrasiabi was so known to engage in harassment of females that his suite was nicknamed the "Crosby Suite" after alleged rapist Bill Crosby.

I'm worried that they're going to let Bill Crosby out of prison on some stupid technicality like they did with that other notorious alleged rapist, Bill Cosby.
  • Blizzard-Activision is going Trump-tard as part of their PR response.
"...We are sickened by the reprehensible conduct of the DFEH to drag into the complaint the tragic suicide of an employee whose passing has no bearing whatsoever on this case and with no regard for her grieving family. While we find this behavior to be disgraceful and unprofessional, it is unfortunately an example of how they have conducted themselves throughout the course of their investigation. It is this type of irresponsible behavior from unaccountable State bureaucrats that are driving many of the State's best businesses out of California. "

  • You know, I wouldn't put it past Blizz to put an advertisement in the middle of their response.

  • This article contains even worse details:

The suit also points to a female Activision employee who took her own life while on a company trip with her male supervisor. The employee had been subjected to intense sexual harassment prior to her death, including having nude photos passed around at a company holiday party, the complaint says.
  • Last penny I gave them was the Warcraft 3 expansion, bought on sale.

Things changed when WoW was announced. I remember the PR disaster that was the beta test access codes. In response to a tiny group complaining, they hosed everyone else AND themselves.

Diablo 2 already had a black market problem at the time. They learned nothing from it and just poured gas on the fire.

  • LOL at their response, they don't even directly deny any of it.
  • Look, if those women didn't want to be harrassed they should have gotten another job.

  • Blizzard's had this reputation in the industry since the early 2000s.

    JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZUS!!

I can't even snark, that is supremely, deeply farked up! This is the kind of shiat that arbitration clauses in employment contracts can cause if left to fester.

Also, the fact that this is the state of CA, and not a group of former employees, bringing the suit means they're pretty certain they have a pretty solid case. They wouldn't go after a company with more money than god otherwise.
  • This is the gaming culture we normalized.

Collective "we".  Anyone who excused it, or said That's Just How It Is, or you can just mute, or even "I'm [blank] and it never bothered me".  It's too late to discourage now because it is now expected.

Of course it worked it's way upward.
  • Hard to believe this would happen in an industry that considered G-string armor for women a thing.

I always get him confused with the singer Bing Cosby.

Wow.  Yeah, that's not a good look at all, Blizzard.  "How dare they bring up this woman who was sexually harrassed while addressing sexual harrasment?"

Plus, aside from a few folks actually doing actual work, game journalism has been nothing but a laundromat for press releases. Ubisoft hasn't done anything to the people at the top who engaged in and fostered their harassment/rape culture for years, but unless you're reading/watching specific people you wouldn't be aware of any of it. Most press about Ubisoft is about "ZOMG NEW FARCRY WITH LOS POLLOS HERMANOS DUDE! SPLOOGE!!!"
  • Truly, I am shocked, SHOCKED that the company that brought the phrase "battle bikini" in popular culture has issues with sexual harassment.

Bing was the head of a talented family, his son norm became a comedian, and his son gary and daughter mary became actors.

Speak for yourself.  I spent years railing against toxic gaming culture, troll culture, and how corporatized games were becoming on a certain game site.

I finally realized there is nothing about gaming culture worth saving and people will never stop lining up to buy the next steaming pile of micro-transaction bullshiat from EA, B-A, or Ubisoft.

  • This behavior was known to supervisors and indeed encouraged by them, including a male supervisor openly encouraging a male subordinate to "buy" a prostitute to cure his bad mood.

Well, that's obviously bad behavior. You rent prostitutes, not buy them.

Because video game journalism is a by product and reflection of video game fans. Actual journalism doesn't get clicks and anything that is perceived as too critical of a even slightly popular game or company that people like is immediately met with disdain, derision and claims of bias.

And now it's mostly youtube influencers that are paid for pushing specific content.

So all the women who work there that were being harassed are incels?
