  • That's a BINGO for me! ❤❤❤
  • Stop being an asshole. The cost of living increases have been pitiful for decades -- it was 1.3% last year, for instance.

Here are the facts from 1975 until now:
    https://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/colaseries.html
  • Isn't official inflation like 1.8%?  No way they are seeing a 6% hike.
  • Better than the 0.0% and 0.3% I got my first two years on SS.
  • "Assuming you guys have a next year", subby? In the US, 65-74 year olds have an 84.5% vaccination rate. It's safe to assume they'll be around next year.
  • Northern: Isn't official inflation like 1.8%?  No way they are seeing a 6% hike.

Depends on your inflation index, whether your are measuring monthly changes, comparison to same month in previous month and whatever smoothing techniques you are using.

Aside from that, the 6% is likely based on the difference between years instead of the ongoing measures which are for different time periods.

That's odd. Your graph looks awfully similar to mine.

Yeah, but they're still 65 to 74 years old...

Covid isn't the only thing that kills people and time inevitably kills everyone.

    Imagine that.
  • To point out the obvious, it's not really a bump if it's caused by inflation.  Sure, they're getting more money, but it's worth less than it previously was.

If we're going to address this issue in retirement benefits, why don't we discuss the issue in minimum wage and wages in general?

/minimum wage has become a joke.

100.0% and 100.3% beat the hell out of 0%, which is what non-boomers will probably get.
  • Not to worry, Medicare rates will go up 6%, so a net gain of 0%.
  • So it goes broke even faster. Yay.

I'd like to believe that, but Gen X and Millennials will probably screw over the next generations just like our parents did.  The next guys could have a modern grid, well paved highways an education they could be proud of and a Navy that can keep our enemies at bay... or we could have avocado on our toast at breakfast in our death beds while allowing our government whore out the military to contractors.

Which way do you think we're likely to go?  I'll be 38 in a couple months, My money's on "we're going to fark everything up and be no better than the previous generations".
  • Hey, thanks Boomers. Use it up even faster with your terrible decision-making and economy wrecking policies.

Fun stuff. And just as another thumb in our collective eye, you're making sure to trash the planet on your way out too.

Sorry I didn't leave all the money I put into it for help in my retirement for you.

Which generation was the peace generation? Which was the save the whales generation? How about the save the rainforest generation? Was it your generation that stopped the cfc's from ruining our planet? I could go on and fill a page here but I wont.

Other than your post here, how much trash do you generate in a day? When was the last time you brought an appliance in to be repaired instead of just throwing it away? How about your last phone, what did you do with that?

What have you done, besides hopefully not procreating, to make the planet better?

I mean avocados aren't exactly expensive, especially when compared with other staples of each generation like Bacon, so the whole avocado toast quip is about as in touch with reality as the "okay boomer" quip.

That said, I have no doubt that our generation (millennials) will fark up things in our own way, but I don't necessarily see refusal to raise minimum wage, stopping creation of better working conditions or fighting to keep racism alive being one of them (as a whole, individual results may very). We will undoubtedly have our own mess to disgust the next generation, but I don't think it will be the same things that we are struggling with as a generation, that older generations never really had to contend with until they were late in their careers and not as subjected to these forces.

Yeah, I thought the same thing back in 1980.

I looked, inflation is spiking, it's close to 5% now.  So maybe a 3% annual inflation rate if that is how SS cost of living adjustments are made.
As mentioned in other posts, costs are rising so it's not an actual increase in SS, it will always trail increasing inflation so it's actually a cut to the benefit.

I have a family of four and our collective carbon footprint is roughly one ton a year, which I offset fivefold just to be safe. Eat the most gigantic bowl of dicks imaginable, Boomer scum.
  • Likwit: Boomer scum

    Are you a racist too?

A family of four? Congrats on being selfish and contributing to the overpopulation of the earth. Why do you hate future generations so much?

You are a hateful bigoted idiot.
