  • Subby here. I didn't bother including the episode title for Stargirl. I figured you'd know it by now.
  • Turns out Eclipso is from the world of Sid and Marty Krofft.
  • Kid Eclipso's actor is not good at convincing evil laughter.
  • Never in any of the comics or animated appearances of Mr. Mxyztplk (Golden Age) or Mxyzptlk (Silver Age and later) did I even consider that he'd be able to sing, even though "magician" and "musician" are very similar words.
  • Wish Mxy had a little hat but otherwise I'm good.
  • wish that kitty battle was longer

Never thought I'd see Kryptonian heat vision used as a laser pointer.

/Why is hers blue-white and the Kryptonians' on Superman & Lois red?
  • So uh.

The fight choreographer and the editor fir the Stargirl fight scene is gonna get a job for Kick Ass 3, right?

I was impressed by that as well, and plan to rewatch it.

Eh...... some parts were pretty good, some parts were way too hokey with the wire work.

I laughed out loud at her distracting the cat with that.

The blue-white thing, seems to have been a thing since the start of Supergirl on ABC, and when Superman was on the show, he matched.  During Crisis, Brandon Routh's older Superman had red heat vision.

Mxy's song was kinda awesome.  I didn't expect that he'd spend most of the episode not using magic to hide.  I guess he's got some plan in mind, but I can't see it yet.

Meanwhile, Lena goes looking for her mother's family, and is told her mother was a witch and a murderer.  Well, perhaps partly true.  It would be interesting if Lena started learning magic.. preferably NOT from John Constantine... Zantana, perhaps?
  • Next week.. John Diggle, Kelly's new Guardian suit, and more Nxy.  Should be fun.

Yeah, those two seconds or so with the laser-pointer heat vision atoned for a lot of sins in the writing of episodes in the recent seasons of CW DC shows. It was just ― so ― Weisenger-era! You just know that if laser pointers had existed in the 1960s, a panel of Superman or Supergirl doing just that to distract a magical giant cat created by Mxzyzptlk would've appeared in a Weisenger-era comic. Kudos on whoever came up with that idea!

The blue-white of Supergirl's heat vision on the ABC series took me aback at first, but it made sense: blue-white stars are much hotter than red ones. White-hot and blue-hot are hotter than red-hot. I was just wondering why there's a discrepancy now on two TV series featuring Kryptonians supposedly (since Crisis) set on the same Earth in the same continuity.

IMHO the best visual on-screen portrayal of heat vision ever was on Smallville, where instead of it being some visible energy beam emission, it was a heating of the air somehow in a line from the eyes, and visibly manifested only as heat distortion of the air along those lines of sight. Heat vision, not laser vision.

(Originally in the Golden-Age comics, Superman's visual powers were added over time, and what later came to be known as "heat vision" was instead, at first, "the heat of his X-Ray vision.")

So, what did you think of Stargirl?
  • COMALite J: So, what did you think of Stargirl?

Me?  I watched about 4 episodes of the first season, and felt I wasn't the target audience.

It got pretty interesting this episode. I love seeing Eclipso as the Big Bad. I wonder if they're going with the Eclipso: The Darkness Within version of the character? I hope they don't do what they did later and have him be a sort of renegade Wrath-of-God prototype of The Spectre.

They're really getting into the Golden Age characters in this series. IIRC, from Crisis on Infinite Earths, this still takes place on another Earth (like Titans and Doom Patrol and others on premium / streaming channels) despite being on The CW. Maybe you should give it another try?

Perhaps.. most other CW shows are on break now.

Course, there's a bunch of Disney+ shows that I've not seen yet.. never seem to have that much time, and I'm watching the CW shows on my phone during slow times at work at 4 am.
  • You know, if Lena Luthor combines her current tech savvy with magic, she could end up the DC equivalent of Dr. Doom.  Flying battle armor and the mystic arts.. she may end up overpowered.

    I was thinking that myself.
