  • Gee, you'd think it wouldn't be news that women get equal pay for better work.

    You would think.
  • It's not equal value, I'm sorry. Winning the WWC is not the same as winning a gender swapped WC in any way, shape or form, much like winning the NCAA D1 softball title isn't the same as winning the World Series. Look, I wish that women athletes could be as ridiculously overpaid as their male counterparts, but the market has decided their product is worth less. If you feel this is inequitable, vote with your wallet.

Those people work just as hard as the NBA players and play in the same arenas they deserve equal pay!

    Well, I have 2 options:
    1) actually form a sound counterargument showing why the playing level is equal in the World Cup, or...
    2) Post a meme

I think we know where this is going.

Ahh, the old "The USMNT have the same genitals as the people who played in a very popular tournament that they didn't play in so they deserve more money than the USWNT because they DON'T have the same genitals as the people who played in that tournament" argument.

It isn't what you're saying that gets me, it is what you're not saying while pretending you're being straight up.

You act as if the women didn't willingly sign their previous CBA, as if it was some plot against them. You act as if women don't need almost double the same amount of games as the men do with lower ticket prices to have their gates even come close. Stating that "equality" is desired while willfully ignoring the differences in revenue is a knowingly dishonest presentation.

No, it's the old "men's World Cup generates $6 billion in revenue, women's WC generates $150 million" argument.

Neither the USMNT nor the USWNT played in that tournament last time around. The only reason anyone thinks the men are more deserving of that money is because they have the same genitals as the people who actually earned it.

USWNT brings in higher ratings and more money than the USMNT.
  • johnny_vegas: Are we going to tackle the salary disparity between the NBA and WNBA next?

That situation is different because in that league, the men actually bring in higher TV ratings and higher ticket sales, unlike soccer where the US Women bring in higher ratings and higher ticket sales.

A very fair point, however the World Cup disparity, while not part of the suit, is mentioned in TFA, and is the most unbalanced part of the salary disparity and is directly related to revenue generation

A very pretty good article discussing this from a little while ago

and actually qualify for the World Cup and win games and the whole tournament. I cannot remember the last time the USMNT made past the group stage. 2002 maybe?

No, you're going to have to do better than saying you disagree with one thing this guy believes that is completely unrelated to the subject of that video and using that as an excuse to ignore every point made in it because you are either completely ignorant to the points made therein or because you are too lazy to do the research to debunk them.

Hunter Biden's laptop conspiracy is complete BS, agreed. The USWNT claim of unequal pay may also be BS. Have the intellectual integrity to show your work vs. a dismissal out of hand because you don't like the politics of the person presenting the information.

See, the problem is I watched a few random videos on his channel before commenting.  He's biased as hell, believes in media cover-ups and uses some pretty questionable sources, including a lot of Murdoch media.  He has an agenda, and I'm not going to waste my time engaging his arguments.

If what you're saying is correct and I am strictly talking about revenue, I'm open to being shown that. My experience on here has generally consisted of people disingenuously screeching about "equality" while trying to drown out anything else and I don't subscribe to that method.

If their revenue is higher than the men's team, by all means they should get more but I'm just not aware of any sport that isn't niche where the revenue of the women's team is higher than the men's team. If I'm wrong I'll be more than willing to acknowledge as such.

Well then another problem is that you still have no idea if anything presented in the video about the USWNT is accurate or not. Because if that information is accurate, and I hate to say it but it pretty much is judging on the discovery phase of the court case, then you still present as either ignorant or lazy regarding the subject based on nothing but your opinion of the presenter.

Facts don't change because the person saying them is someone you disagree with. They are still the facts. There's a reason the USWNT lost the court case.

The issue is less about the total amount of money each team brought in than it is how each team collectively bargained for different terms based on different needs. The USWNT went for more guarantees and benefits while the USMNT sought straight up cash based terms. The women's team had every chance to go for the same deal the men went for but chose a different structure. Enough USWNT members had buyer's remorse to push for a lawsuit to make it happen but the facts uncovered in discovery more or less rendered their position invalid. The assertion that gender played a role turned out to be demonstrably false.

tl;dr: Next time, negotiate a batter deal for yourself. No backsies.
