  • Yep. Actuarially, I am likely to live long enough for the Everglades to completely disappear. Last I checked the math 20% of Florida will disappear during my lifetime. Miami will become an island. Nothing of value will be lost.
  • I'll be 64.

    Will you still need me?
  • No one will do anything about this, because money, and millions, if not billions, will die.

Billions will die because of money. F*cking money.

many people, especially the big money people, WANT billions to die. they think that if we just cull the population, the survivors will be able to live like gods on a playground earth
  • Our only hope now is if the Ice People from the comet we call Kephole 69 choose to save us by dipping their giant ice balls into our hot, waiting oceans.

  • Thank goodness so some countries are in the process of shutting down their nuclear power plants before replacing them with renewable sources and are now burning coal instead.

As always, her heart is in the right place but her ideas' details are pure shiat.

The specifics of the Green New Deal  (science/tech) are terrible, and terribly undersized.   Also, it's too late.  Way too late.  Two generations too late.  Even ignoring the climate issues we're already dealing with, we needed* to build the new urban centers while we still had a lot of cheap energy/materials.  We needed to Manhattan Project things like 300K SuperConductors, Tokamaks, Lithium Air Batteries, NextGen PhotoVoltaics, CO2RR electrocatalysts, etc.

So, quite frankly, I honestly don't care that the GND isn't going to happen, because quite frankly, we're past the tipping point in terms of tech and infrastructure timelines, even if we aren't past the temperature tipping point itself.

Just wait until the Great Climate Migration starts. Y'all think we have problems with immigration now...

Also, we need something a little better than this idea of global warming average. Some places are already at 2C of rise, and the poles are warming faster than anybody, threatening a worse scenario due to methane release.
  • I'm sure we'll get the climate change problem sorted just as soon as we've finished wiping out the current Covid pandemic.
  • Our alien overlords will save us.

Unless killing off 3/4 of us through climate-change-produced starvation and disasters is how they plan to become our overlords, in which case we're farked.
  • I would love to read about our impending doom, but I can't because I don't like ads.

We really do need alien overlords. They could be like the cat in the hat. We can have fun and then right before Mother Earth gets angry, they help us clean up our mess. In conclusion, we're boned.

Clearly you haven't spent much time in the Keys, or you are one of those people who complains constantly if they are warm enough to sweat.

The Florida reef and the Everglades are pretty precious, people hate on Florida because of the politics (which are horrific) but I'll take a beach over mountains any day. Water warm enough to swim in, tropical fish, and coral reefs pretty much define paradise to me.

Probably gonna have a mass extinction of warm water coral too. Maybe if we're lucky there will be some hardy survivors that can still make reefs but that's not looking great.

    We farked it.

Hope you only mean the concrete stuff is nothing of value, the Everglades are amazing.

I might be dead already. Good luck, we are all counting on you.
  • So the time to decide which coastal cities are worth protecting with massive sea walls is right now, and the heartland bumpkins with a seat at that table will definitely be shouting "None of them!!!"? Welcome to Murrica.
