  • That's some lame trolling, subby.
  • Seriously, though - who can't relate to just wanting some soda, beer, food, and a nice house?

I can't tell if the author is being cheeky or if they really believe Bird was talking about soda.

"The one essential thing I want is a clean, comfortable place to live," he asserts. "Other than that, money is not that big of a deal to me. I know it's easy to say that when you have some, but I mean it. If I have enough money for some Coke, some beer, something to eat, and a nice place to live, I don't need much more."

The capitalization of coke is the writer, Bob Ryan's. This interview was most certainly on the phone or in person. Not like today where the interviewer emails some questions and the subject answers them in writing.

Who wasn't doing coke in the 80's? Besides me because I was a kid.

That's no excuse, Drew Barrymore was a kid in the 80s and coked to the gills.

If I knew how to get some, but alas I was just growing up on an air force base.
  • As popular as cocaine was with NBA players in the 80's, I just can't image the 'Hick From French Lick' partaking.

    However

John Mellencamp: "I've known Larry Bird since we were kids. When he was on the Celtics and I was playing in Boston, he and Kevin McHale would come to my dressing room after the show and smoke me under the table."

All that's missing is a banjo
  • Didn't everyone have coke in the 80's? I mean there was so much coke Kirk Cameron almost did it.
  • Bob Saget was 65 and roughly 8 months.
He, Larry, just turned 65 last month. Now we play the waiting game.

I was 14 when Len Bias died from using cocaine. Scared the shiat outta me. I never touched the stuff. I stuck to smoking fark tons of weed and hash, drinking copius amounts of alcohol, dropping lotsa LSD, and eating magic mushrooms. I played it safe.

I was 8 when Bias did, never did an illegal drug outside a handful of underage drinking.

  • $24 million over 13 years? That's it?
  • That would be the life.

Keep that number in mind the next time pro athletes strike for better wages.

It's suspected that Reggie Lewis also died of a heart attack that resulted from cocaine use.

Yayo is fun the first few times but you didn't miss much.

At the top levels it's pretty much always a lockout. The only people striking/threatening to strike are the players in leagues making far less than that.

/A strike also isn't always about pay
//like how baseball owners play with calling people up to mess with years of service and eliminate the possibility of someone becoming a FA as they're hitting their prime and maxing out their value
  • qorkfiend: $24 million over 13 years? That's it?

Would be about $80M if he were playing today. It's a lot of money but still really nothing compared to what the superstars in the league make today. Guys like Lebron and Curry are making $40+M per season.

As rural and country as Southern Indiana is, I'm not sure they say Coke for Soda. Think they say soda. Coke for soda is extremely southern, like Dixie southern. Northern Illinois we said Pop, southern Illinois where everyone has a thick southern accent, they say soda. Only heard Coke for soda from Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana types.

Yea let's give the owners and the league even more money when the players are literally the entire enterprise.

FFS guess you meet one every day.

It's suspected that cocaine use is how your comment came to be in the first place.

    This is why he died:

Autopsy results would later confirm that Lewis had an enlarged heart, an inherited defect called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), which produced an errant heart rhythm under exercise stress that led to his sudden death. Indeed, Lewis had fainted during a game a few months before, prompting a much-publicized debate on his heart health and foreshadowing his death. But not in time for Lewis to have had an automated defibrillator implanted, a device that can electrically shock the heart back to pumping after it has stopped.

Coke is an ATL thing, so definitely all of GA and most of south as well.
