  • Is Gwendoline Christie going to do a batshiat musical number for no reason?
  • Just hit play. My pants are unzipped in preparation.
  • The Sandman fans I've encountered aren't like internet superhero geeks. I hope there isn't stupid drama about a black woman being cast as Lucienne. I haven't followed the buzz thus far.

On one hand I don't care. I even liked The Watch and Cowboy Bebop live,  otoh it's a meme for a reason

As far as I've seen all the stupid drama is centered on Death being played by a black woman.

As for me, I can't wait to watch this weekend.
  • Ozark was probably the last series I will ever watch on Netflix. It's almost like that company is trying to intentionally destroy itself with bad decisions.

This makes no sense to me, as Dream appeared in the comic in an African manifestation.  The ethnicities, hell, even the species of the Endless are entirely up to their viewer.

People that are angry on the internet rarely make sense.
  • I read the first trade of Sandman and I don't get the hype. There was a lot of pseudo-philosophical rambling and it never really went anywhere. What am I missing?
  • Speaking of DC properties, Netflix has dropped 10 episodes of The Sandman. Watch it repeatedly ASAP, lest The Algorithm not give a Season 2

Maybe, when I finish watching this Predator movie

It took me five years to pick up the second trade paperback. After that, it coalesces beautifully. The series really needs to be taken as a whole.

Netflix has been hit or miss with adaptations. Let's not speak of Death Note. I haven't heard anything but positive things about Sandman. Liking it so far at 45 minutes in.

You just don't like a thing that several of us like. We can all still get along.

I'd love to say this very thread is likely to contain hints at what some Sandman fans think you might be missing, but this is Fark, so it will probably actually mostly contain memes and pictures of Death cosplayers. And I'm not mad about that either.

It felt to me like the first volume was an origin story combined with a way to fit the character into the DC universe.  In the later books, Dream's own story starts to unfold, which makes it better, IMO.

This should be a law.  "Where Wolf's Law." No. That sounds like the title for a What We Do in the Shadows spin-off about werewolf law firm specializing in kidnapping and trafficking cases.

I know it's a cliche to say this, but it really does get more interesting as it goes. The first couple of trades are good, but it really gets going after that.
  • Am I the only one that is afraid to start it because I don't want to be disappointed? I have no problem with the casting, but I'm worried that they are going to totally screw up the story.

Gaiman has been effusive in his praise regarding set design, costuming, and casting. He has also been involved in the script adaptation and has not wavered on his approval throughout production. I have allowed myself to be optimistic - the test will be this weekend's highly anticipated binge-watch.

Counterpoint: American Gods and the notion that Good Omens needs a sequel.

    Prey?

Any good? The trailer is short but it looked like it could be better than other recent attempts.

It was way better than the last one and both of those vs ones.

Were you wearing all black, black fingernail polish, pale makeup with thick black eyeliner and cradle of filth in the background?
You might not have been the target audience.
  • I may drop P+ for a while and pick up Netflix for a bit.  Been wanting to watch more Love, Sex, and Robots.  This has possibilities.  Hope it's better than Wheel of Time.

The reviews for Prey have been really positive. From what I can gather it goes back to basics for the franchise, and executes a simple story really well.
