Which Metaverse? Facebook/Meta? Roblox? Decentraland? Earth 2? there are many others. Articles online makes it sound like there's only one. Some are wishful thinking for potential profit but due to technological limits look like shiat, others are outright scams.

It's both artificial scarcity and forcing people who purchase Oculus VR products to register as Facebook and meta users even if they don't use those platforms. So Zuck is on very shaky ground and the stock price reflects this.
Zuck's recent involvement in undermining democracy and promoting hate speech and propaganda would make Goebbels blush. He's a stochastic terrorist hiding as a "capitalist". Hopefully he gets to meet the people he does business with and it involves zip ties and a Saudi "interview".
