theinformation: Investors that bought metaverse land with the hopes of leasing it to retailers have seen the value of their holdings collapse. https://t.co/eb9nO6yNyn https://t.co/VaTPmjSdCL
Which Metaverse? Facebook/Meta? Roblox? Decentraland? Earth 2? there are many others. Articles online makes it sound like there's only one. Some are wishful thinking for potential profit but due to technological limits look like shiat, others are outright scams.
The only way these 3d virtual environments will ever work is if we figure out a way to make it a fully immersive experience. Maybe a full body suit? More likely something plugged directly into the brain.
/ that's a long way off // and it's only going to be used for fully interactive porn
Archie Goodwin:Not that I give a shiat, but isn't virtual land virtually unlimited?
Or are they imposing artificial scarcity?
It's both artificial scarcity and forcing people who purchase Oculus VR products to register as Facebook and meta users even if they don't use those platforms. So Zuck is on very shaky ground and the stock price reflects this. Zuck's recent involvement in undermining democracy and promoting hate speech and propaganda would make Goebbels blush. He's a stochastic terrorist hiding as a "capitalist". Hopefully he gets to meet the people he does business with and it involves zip ties and a Saudi "interview".

It's porn. It's always porn. If some new technology doesn't involve porn, it's going nowhere. The day after papyrus was invented, someone drew boobs on it.

NotARocketScientist: Metaverse Land sounds like a Disney Land knock off you'd hear about on South Park.
It sounds like a conspiracy theory theme park where the restaurants only sell potato salad and Michelob light.
