  • Hasn't it always been that way in the City?

They prefer if you call it Frisco.
  • Just yesterday I lunched at  a popular restaurant.  At first I considered the reservation route but I decided to just wing it.  That is because the last time I dined there I went with the reservation route and was met with a lot of confusion before they agreed to take my reservation.  This leads me to believe that they have reservation problems as well.  It was a pleasant enough dining experience and they allowed me to choose my own table.  After selecting a nice window table my food was soon made.  The people did not even scoff at me about my use of a coupon.  Everything was fine about my dining experience.  The coupon I used was pretty good to boot.  It was "Buy Five, Get Five Free Cheese Sliders" and I have another one just like it.  I will use that before 9/30/2022 and I now know that just showing up is easier than trying to get a reservation at White Castle.

More of an any large city problem.

Oh.  I forgot about that.  Do me a favor come next February and remind me to avoid White Castle on the 14th.  While I doubt the place will be packed with idiots I want no part of that nonsense.
  • Last time I made a restaurant reservation was for The Stinking Rose in San Fransisco.  When we drove down for the weekend, the huge Camp wildfire was burning and many places were closed. I called them, they were open and we could come by any time.  Every bit as good as I remembered from 25 years ago. Bonus: all that garlic cleared out the congestion I was experiencing, N95 or not.

It's worse than that. It's a You Live in Manhattan Below 110th Street problem.
  • While most of us are struggling with budgeting for daily groceries at the local 'no name' market, you get to hear about these poor, poor folks who can't get a reservation at a high-end eatery.

Have you seen the kitchen in some of these NYC apartments? You're lucky to have a microwave and a hotplate.
  • This sounds like a "problem" for which I have no sympathy for anyone involved.

I'm a good cook.  I also enjoy eating at restaurants.  Go figure.

    Came here to say this.
  • Oddly enough Chez-Boudyro is always open and always delicious. I eat what I want, when I want, the service is great, the food isn't drowning in salt or butter, and it's quiet.

On the rare instances I do dine out it is always with a reservation. That's evolved from a lifelong tradition of laughing and walking right the fark out of anyplace that expects me to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated.

I'm not some cow-eyed moron who's going to spend a chunk of my precious life sitting there waiting for my turn at the trough of sub-par food.

The only person I don't mind waiting for is my doctor. Because he's awesome.

Depends for me - I'm willing to wait for somewhere that really is good in a way not available elsewhere.  I'm not for generic restaurant #252105 no
