  • If I learned anything from Caddyshack, it's that golf courses and cemeteries are the biggest waste of real estate.
  • This has a lot for Farkers to hate on:
    - Philly, especially the Eagles
    - yet another IPA
    - golf
  • Rather see more golfers than a bunch of nerds who play videogames and limit their social interaction to yelling racial slurs at each other online.
  • Been playing for forty years. I'd prefer to see less golfers.  There has been several booms and busts for golf. Most recent boom is due to covid.  It will pass.

Getting a good tee time right now is really difficult at the public courses and all of the country clubs are at maxed out on members.  Even the OKish clubs around NJ are getting away with initiation fees. The really nice ones are charging annual fees to be on the waiting list.
  • Hate the Eagles all you want, but Merrill Reese is a national treasure.

Subby could have at least spelled his name correctly.

Great voice and a Philly icon. But honestly, his actual play by play isn't great.

would you rather listen to Joe Buck?   lol....

Not only an IPA, a DOUBLE IPA

No little kid want to drink that swill!

Eh, Buck's fine.  I seriously don't get the hate.  The broadcast teams don't really affect my viewing of the game though.

But I get why Reese is so loved.  Great voice and most fans love a broadcaster that's on their side.  I was just pointing out that those factors often overshadow his shortcomings in describing the game action (especially since he's a radio guy).

Yeah, golf is a waste of real estate, esp in urban areas.
Now that there is more variety in craft/micro there is no need to hate IPAs. It's like this: another IPA - ok, only IPAs - not ok.
And the Birds are looking good so far, haters.

A lot of fans put on the TV, mute it, and then listen to the radio, so his weaknesses in describing the action gets covered up by actually being able to see the action. But I agree, it's sometimes very frustrating listening in the car, and only having a partial idea of what's happening on the field.

I know it's sacrilege to Philly, but I prefer listening to Kevin Harlan if he's got the game (like on Monday nights). Despite (or maybe because of) sounding like he's had far too much caffeine, he describes plays and situations much better.

Yeah, forgot to take that into account as well.

Yes, we should make golf inaccessible to urban youth. It's a tried and true approach

I also dont get the Buck hate, was just making a joke.  I think he's a better baseball announcer than football tho..

When NFL Network used to but those 10-20 minute blurbs on demand day after games with just the highlights, they would use the home team radio announcer.  Every single one of them was miles better than the broadcast teams you get on TV....  aside from more descriptive play by play (which I guess you dont need on TV), their love of the team and game are fantastic.  It will never happen, but I would love to see them eliminate the generic broadcast teams and allow each home team to have their own people like they do with the other 3 major sports.
When I'm watching the Flyers, I want Jim Jackson calling the action...  oh well.

Yeah, Merrill is getting up there in age and messes up here and there, but I'll take it.    I'm usually yelling at him from the couch..  "no Merrill, he got 5 yards, not 2..."   but he's also looking at the field from way up, not watching the monitor.
  • Sports talk radio guys could raise $100 billion and find a cure for cancer and they'll still be a NET negative to society.

To be clear, you believe that those courses are for "urban youth"?
If you mean rich kids growing up in cities then you are correct, but they have the means to travel outside the city.

Next up let's convert downtown waterfront property to marinas, so "urban youth" can access the yachts.

Yeah, that's inherently the problem with national broadcasts. They have to call the game as objectively as possible. And it's why I always find it funny when fans complain that Buck or whoever hates their team.  I think Buck has even been quoted as saying he apparently hates every team according their particular fanbase.

He can come off particularly dry at times, but I think his Matt Stairs HR call in the 2008 NLCS was really good.

But I understand why most fans prefer the local crews. They provide a comfort level that the national teams don't. They can root for the home team and biatch about the refs when a call doesn't go their way. And of course they have a deeper knowledge of the home team itself.

Yeah, it's not like golf has a ton of rich old farts who look both ways before using those same slurs

True. But at least they leave their mom's basement to get sun, socialize and be a part of society.
