Last 4 dogs including current 2 all came from the humane society as puppies as mutts and have been awesome dogs. Current 2 dogs share a mom but not a Dad and have different personalities. Dogs are what the owner makes them. Dogs want to please and don't want to be in charge and nervous. Ridgeback mixed
Bootleg:I prefer big, lazy dogs. Mastiffs especially. I only show dogs on Fark. [Fark user image image 492x655] She's napping.
Next dog is going to have a large portion of a deerhound in them. Love full size dogs just not shortened lifespan. It takes couple thousand hours to train a dog to always know what they will do.
Meh. Dog shows are just puppy beauty pageants for bored, rich old ladies that think they're "improving the breed" by churning out pretty but useless dogs. I prefer performance over perfect conformation. My beagle is a field trial champion, and several of my dad's dogs have PKC and UKC titles. We skip the bench shows.
We're a hound dog family so we usually pull for anything out of the hound group. Especially blood hounds and Bassets. Our basset hound passed this year so it's gonna be emotional probably.
Mastiffs are best for Farkers. They stay home, they overeat, they pass clouds of gas, they welcome anyone, and only take walks to the corner store for treats.

One of the best things about being completely and utterly alone on Thanksgiving is I don't have to watch this, knowing there's an option of absolute silence.
Had modest experience with mutts growing up, but good luck. Married a wonderful woman who preferred Boxers. After the requisite 2 kids were past 4 years old, it was time to get a purebred Boxer of our own, and female. Penny was everyone's wonderful little girl for 11 years. After some down time, we adopted a Boxer pair where one was pure and the other a mix, but the promised good health was a lie. Both were lost both within 1.5 years, the purebred after just a few months. Got another rescue Boxer mix (named him Jake since he must have some hound in him), and the needed training effort has paid off well.
But he was a bit lonely, so we set out for another female... but apparently Boxers are in high demand. Found a European Boxer pup this time, our first of that type, and using our learned lessons it will be great I am confident. She actually has some cat-like qualities. Boxers are owner pleasers and obedient. They have a moderate protective instinct which must be managed (I dislike his newfound barking at deliveries and passers-by and such). Study up on your breed's health so you know what to expect. Mutts apparently have some advantages in the health area.
Lots of good information out there, and some bad I suppose. Check out the differences among American, German and European Boxers, most are appearance related I suppose. Great dogs. I can see the good parts in many breeds, but I won't tolerate any destructive behavior - this is MY HOUSE! No very large dogs for me, and really, two at a time is my limit. Food and vet prices are not dropping, and someone has to clean up the yard!

kdawg7736: Who doesn't like all of the little doggies?
Poodles and the dogs that look like floor mops.
