Got to see Arlo perform it live at the Santa Cruz Auditorium in 1984. Friend at work (Thanks Jeff!) won free tickets from local radio station and gave them to me! Also appearing at concert- John Sebastian (Lovin' Spoonful, Welcome Back Kotter theme song) and the David Bromberg Band! Awesome concert!
The movie itself is kind of an awesome view of what things looked like in the 60's. I know most people just know the song but the movie is kinda fun to watch. Its on youtube.
I had no idea the real officer played himself in the movie. Haven't seen it in years but recall loving it. I'll have to watch it again and get a few extra laughs from that bit of knowledge.

Not just the officer, but the judge, too. And his seeing-eye dog!
Haven't heard the song in its entirety in over 20 years. This Thanksgiving, during dinner with my wife (we are 54 and 52), 27y/o daughter and her 29y/o partner, I decided I would choose to have it playing during dinner so they could hear it for the first time and share in the mirth.
I turned it off after a dozen minutes - no one was enjoying it, including me, except for a few chuckles early on about the two piles of garbage becoming one large pile of garbage.

Some things just don't last the test of time.
Don't be so hard on yourself, you made it 54 or 52 years.

I'm not sure I've heard of any women liking it, but i think the first listen you have to be committed to it. I appreciate the humor of it.
If you don't jump out the emergency exit door before landing, your flight is free.
