Imaginativescreenname: I had no idea the real officer played himself in the movie. Haven't seen it in years but recall loving it. I'll have to watch it again and get a few extra laughs from that bit of knowledge.
Not just the officer, but the judge, too. And his seeing-eye dog!

I turned it off after a dozen minutes - no one was enjoying it, including me, except for a few chuckles early on about the two piles of garbage becoming one large pile of garbage.
Some things just don't last the test of time.

LZeitgeist: Haven't heard the song in its entirety in over 20 years. This Thanksgiving, during dinner with my wife (we are 54 and 52), 27y/o daughter and her 29y/o partner, I decided I would choose to have it playing during dinner so they could hear it for the first time and share in the mirth.
I turned it off after a dozen minutes - no one was enjoying it, including me, except for a few chuckles early on about the two piles of garbage becoming one large pile of garbage.
Some things just don't last the test of time.
Don't be so hard on yourself, you made it 54 or 52 years.

I'm not sure I've heard of any women liking it, but i think the first listen you have to be committed to it. I appreciate the humor of it.
