  • If you are a lawyer and lawmaker and plead guilty without having examined the consequences of your plea, you probably should be neither a lawyer or a lawmaker.

At least this time, the only victim of his subpar legal skills was himself.

Federal courts aren't like state courts.  In a state court they don't care if you're in the same building when your plea is decided between the DA and his brither, the public defender -you goin to jail forever.  But in federal courts, if the appeals courts are not convinced you said a single solitary word in your plea with enough elan, they will vacate the plea.  That's why state pleas take half a unit of Planck time, but federal pleas can take over a hour.  if thefe is even a tiny sliver of doubt, the judge will rescind the plea deal instead of inevitably having the appeals court lambast him for pages in their reversal decision for not maintaining proper trilling of Rs in the proceedings.

Boyo still has to go to trial
  • The old habeas dumbass.
  • Can I do that with my marriage proposal?
  • How do people so incredibly dumb, achieve such positions of power?

Yes, yes, voters who are even dumber. Still it boggles the mind.
  • He might win this one.

Dad dying of pancreatic cancer in one room and newborn twins in the next room? He could squeek that one past. He's going to have to grovel really really hard and humiliate himself for sure, and probably the judge will demand he make his statement in person, but he might get his trial.
  • If I could do "takesies backsies" for each bad decision I've made in life because of my unsure heart and/or an unclear mind, I probably wouldn't be such a trainwreck. But that's not how it works.

Money. Either their own or that of someone else using the official as a proxy.
  • "Brian Kelsey was given less than 48 hours to make a decision on his plea agreement at a time when he was contending with his father on his death bed due to pancreatic cancer and newborn twins," the documents explain."

I'm guessing some family connection or at least a wealthy background. Enough of either and you get to go to a more prestigious school which won't actually get you a better education but it does tell people you are in the important people club.

  • You've got a bunch of people talking here who will absolutely not be involved in any ensuing violent protest but want the same dumbasses who stormed the capital to do their bidding for them once again.
