Oh wow, I hope this gets greenlit, should make for a great flamewar thread.
It really is impressive, that they can keep spewing these inanites about evolution and intelligent design. If they would at least try to be scientific about ID, they would have a case.
Of course, natural sciences are not really able to provide a basis for understanding what is basically a supernatural theory. If it does get resolved, I'm left wondering what else we would wharrgarbl about.
Is a typical high school biology student going to (1) read the disclaimer, (2) care? The classroom experience and assignments are going to be far more important.
I often insert random unrelated text in documents I write to see if anybody really reads them and pays attention. Generally, no.
In my whole life, I have yet to meet ONE college-educated adult from Mississippi. It's not like this legislation will make one damn iota of difference.

Wow, and you've spent so much of your life east of the Mississippi river... that must mean that we don't exist.
Yeah. They tried that shiat here in Georgia in Cobb County (the same lovely folks that ended up getting the Olympics yanked from their county because they were bigoted idiots). The court biatchslapped them and forced them to remove the stickers, which ended up costing them quite a bit of money because it destroyed quite a few books...
In a 1996 lecture at Auburn University, later published in the Journal of the Alabama Academy of Science, Richard Dawkins offered a paragraph-by-paragraph analysis of the first version of the Alabama disclaimer
Here are the stated goals of the Wedge Document, which is the Bible of the anti-science politico-religionists:
GOALS
Governing Goals
* To defeat scientific materialism and its destructive moral, cultural and political legacies. * To replace materialistic explanations with the theistic understanding that nature and human beings are created by God.
Five Year Goals
* To see intelligent design theory as an accepted alternative in the sciences and scientific research being done from the perspective of design theory. * To see the beginning of the influence of design theory in spheres other than natural science. * To see major new debates in education, life issues, legal and personal responsibility pushed to the front of the national agenda.
Twenty Year Goals
* To see intelligent design theory as the dominant perspective in science. * To see design theory application in specific fields, including molecular biology, biochemistry, paleontology, physics and cosmology in the natural sciences, psychology, ethics, politics, theology and philosophy in the humanities; to see its innuence in the fine arts. * To see design theory permeate our religious, cultural, moral and political life.
The lawmakers are aware that many constituents reject that theory of evolution and would prefer to eliminate evolution from the curriculum entirely. Disclaimers like this are an attempt at a reasonable compromise. They allow for the teaching of evolution while assuring those students who might be hostile to evolution that they are not required to believe it.
Okay Skinny, where do you and your good friend Rep. Gary Chism propose that Mississippi gets the money to add these stupid stickers (and to replace the books that get damaged after the state loses in court and is required to take the stickers back off)?
Mississippi is currently operating its institutions of higher education at with deficit spending. We are looking at cutting Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program because of budget problems this year. This is a stupid way for Rep. Chism to make a statement, and I'll be damned if he's going to use my money to do so.
SkinnyHead:They allow for the teaching of evolution while assuring those students who might be hostile to evolution that they are not required to believe it.
Evolution is like gravity, belief is not part of the equation.
The fall of the Union starts today, with Mississippi! Soon, they will breed an army of over-confrontational Bible-thumping nutbags who will spread out and erode this country from the inside.
Thank you so much, religious zealots, for teaching, peace, tolerance and acceptance, just like Jesus Christ wanted you too. Oh, wait...
Some day I'll go into my theory about how intelligent design and creationism are nothing more than attempts to prop up the doctrines of sola scriptura and biblical literalism so beloved by certain sects of Protestants. But right now, I have to get ready for Mass.
/Catholic //Yes, we believe in evolution. You can pick your jaws up off the floor now.

Except that Catholic church officials have condemned the Dover court ruling and have spoken in favor of teaching intelligent design in schools.
This should be considered an act of treason. The North really does need to implement a war of aggression.
Every Southern political and religious leader should executed in public square. The rest of the Southern citizens should be rounded up for reeducation. If they are unable to assimilate a better knowledge they will be injected with nano-probes to summon them into slavery. Their land and wealth will be redistributed to the more educated and worthy Northerners, while their labor will be used for our growth- after all, the inferior do not need rights.
We cannot let this plague spread. The very fate of humanity rests on subordinating these vile "people." I dare say I'm very generous in using that very word; 'dogs' or 'savages' would be a far more apt description. So, tonight, I call on my fellow Northerners- my fellow man- to rise up and take back the human civilization. We are decent, we are righteous, we are objective!

At this point, this kind of grandstanding is all the disenfranchise Base has left.
You know, it's a pity that, at the decline of Western Civilization, a group that calls itself "conservative" is happily pounding nails into the coffin

It doesn't specify which God, though....
Theoretically, if this passes..can we use this explanation to teach kids that Odhinn created the world?
