Accident rates at I-10 at Uvalde and I-45 at Wayside, went up 700-percent. But the biggest increase was at West Rd and I-45, where accidents had gone up 13-hundred percent.
Well there's your problem right there. Red lights on interstates.

Not sure if serious, but many on/off ramps to/from interstates begin/end with a stoplight.
1300 percent increase....it's been 225 days since they were turned off, so that means in the last 7.5 months that they have had 5 accidents a day, every day for 225 days in one intersection. Methinks someone is full of bullshiat.
That was precisely my first thought. My second thought was that there must be a corresponding statistical mirror of when the cameras were first installed.... Let's see those numbers too!
The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves:Maybe the camera company will start selling intersection "insurance", where they don't fark with the timing of the lights if they get a "contract".
You know, it's such a lovely intersection. It would be a shame if something were to happen to it.

Protecting your freedom to run a red-light and t-bone someone when you damn well please. And potentially kill or maim them, or yourself, or your passengers. And then expect everyone else's insurance premiums to cover the costs.

Hmmmm... In Oklahoma City schools, do they teach the difference between a percentage increase and a numerical increase? 1300 percent doesn't mean there were 1300 more accidents.
This is an object lesson: Statistics can be sliced to mean anything you want them to.
I've been considering an initiative to the people here in WA to ban any device or system that issues legal citations without human involvement. We don't need computers and cameras issuing tickets.
1300 percent? So 13 times the accidents. I would like to not only see the math but the complete list of accidents down to type of accident and cost. Then using the same formula or criteria on accidents during the red light cameras. I would guess that number would change. Would also change if the cameras became not for profit or proceeds would go to charity then you would see the charity state facts that red light cameras save lives.
Lets see the raw numbers not just the percentages. But lets also see what is EXCLUDED. What they exclude in these are the number of accidents just ahead of the intersection. They want data only for those accidents past the white line or even further. Also when studying accidents while cameras are installed they filter out accidents that are weather related (slippery roads) but do not do so with before accidents.

Ok, yeah, the stats could be messed with, but people only say that when they disagree with the stats. Would anyone who disagrees with redlight cameras like to entertain a hypothetical? Let's say they gave you all the raw data and you did all the even figuring you wanted, and let's say you found out that the cameras DID lower accidents by some large percentage. Would you then be for the camera? Or are accident percentages not the issue. Situation 1, accidents increase by 100% when the cameras are removed. Situation 2, accidents increase by over a thousand person when the cameras are removed.
I know, I know, you all think their stats are bullshiat because you don't like them, and I'll admit, yeah, they really could be bullshiat, but this is a hypothetical.
There is no causality here.

In 2002, the Texas Department of Transportation proposed to discontinue building frontage roads on new freeways, citing studies that suggest frontage roads increase congestion. However, this proposal was widely ridiculed and criticized and was dropped later the same year.[5]
