  • I'd forgive a cannonball knocking a hole in my house as long as they paid for the repairs and let me make out with Kari
  • This has got to be a cool episode.
  • I think that's the M1841 6 pounder bronze field gun, painted black. They're lucky they didn't decide to use the main field guns of the Civil War, which were the 12 pounder bronze Napoleon, 10 pounder Parrott, and 3 inch Ordnance Rifle, all of which would have done considerably more damage. I also am stumped as to why they didn't understand that round solid shot was often intentionally fired low so it would skip off the ground and continue to bounce for many hundreds of yards through advancing troops. And that having a ramp-like backstop was a really bad plan. They usually do their research and think through what they're doing much better than that.

Actually, maybe not. They did after all set off a 12 foot long liquid fueled rocket INSIDE their shop and were surprised when it about burned the whole place down.

I watched that the other day, thought I should grab the recording from my TiVo and do a screen cap and thought, "nah, why bother... I'm sure someone else will get it."

Due Dilligence and Mythbusters don't always go hand in hand.

We're done here. Kill the lights on your way out.
  • I, for one, would LOVE to have a hole blown in my house by the Mythbusters, as long as they'd pay for the repairs. It'd be a hell of a story to tell.
  • I was just reminded why I don't read Wired.

They couldn't call Discovery, or some at Mythbusters for any sort of confirmation? Fark you, that's lazy farking writing.
  • I'm glad they're going to show it.
It would be a disservice to pretend that accidents can't happen and that there are no consequences for getting a little lazy with your safety measures.
  • Ooh, it's that new Mythbusters episode. You know, the one with the explodening and guns going boom while an art major attention whore brought in to to increase the viewership of lonely, horny dweebs does annoying attention whoring and the "science" guys make astoundingly stupid mistakes or way out assumptions that have nothing to do with the myth. That's a cool episode. Anyone who doesn't think it the greatest thing ever is a looooser. I hear next week's episode is about a myth where a dude's balls get hit repeatedly.

/In before the five year old XKCD comic with Feynman gets posted as though current post-Kari/Tory/Grant Mythbusters is somehow a good science show like early pre-Kari/Tory/Grant Mythbusters was.

Well, look, if the show's production halted every time anyone THOUGHT there was a potential problem, there'd only be like 3 bland episodes by now.

I see a field gun and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want it to attack
I see Kari walk by dressed in her summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my cannon blows...
  • Personally, I can't wait for Breaking Bad to get the Mythbusters treatment.

They're all pretty good.. I do miss the old days though before it turned into a Jamie and Adam do the more legit and hardcore science based myths and the others do the not so serious blowing shiat up and crashing cars `myths' that get more and more stupid by the season.

Episodes are still pretty good but I wish it would go back to just Jamie and Adam the entire episode.

You want to see if Adam can wander into a store naked and convince everyone he's experiencing a fugue state?
  • Hate to piss on your corn flakes subs, but

This is the alleged cannon ball episode. This was at the alameda bomb range.

Tonight's episode in question does not happen in Alameda.
  • Range fans and surface danger zones, how do they work?

This. I'd rather have a 6 episode season with just J & A then a full season with the B-team. I can't even be bothered to DVR and fast forward thru the bullshiat anymore.

    Hah!

I think I'll pass on that!
  • FTFA: "Host Kari Byron goes through a long explanation of the safety procedures, and the test itself takes place in a rock quarry which host Byron describes as "out in the middle of nowhere."

First: I don't consider a range that is within 700 meters of a subdivision to be in the middle of no where. I am surprised that they can detonate anything within 1000m of a population centre let alone a cannon that has a range of over 2000m. Second: A bomb range is not an artillery range. The safety templates are completely different. Who ever was the range safety officer of that range should have never let them fire a cannon in a range that is designed for small charges..
