  • Good luck with this whole mess. I'm certain that there are many elected officials who will sacrifice their careers and their fortunes to make your dreams of not following your duties as citizens true...
  • Are those words "Learn to spell secede and secession" ?

I think the greatest lesson here is that the people who are this upset about the election are also the least educated people in the country.

When we speak of the "low information voter" I assume we're not constraining ourselves to political campaigns.
  • Any of you sum'biatches wants to secede and I'll kill ya.

  • Petitions are currently circulating in all 50 states. Either somebody be Trollin or there are some serious problems afoot in the Republic.
  • No "states" are petitioning to secede.
  • Is that Abe Vigoda talking in that USTREAM for 2r Hours of reality in the upper right hand corner of the page?
  • I really hope the Obama administration gives these people the go-ahead to proceed. I'd like to see how far some of these loudmouths are willing to take this.

And if one of the slave states actually decides to leave, fark 'em. Let 'em go.

There are idiots in all 50 states. They're not trolling, they're just dumb. With the power of the internet, they can find like-minded idiots who won't make them feel bad about their idiocy, and then you end up with secession petitions on the white house website.

They need their own country.... The Disorganized States of Stupid.
  • Ooh! I'm a veteran, do my opinions suddenly count? I thought I'd already scored with that free car wash and museum tickets on Monday.

Anyhow, I think these peoples' reactions to an election are stupid, but they have every right to express their grievance with the government without any threats of violence or crime.

However: the question "then what?" keeps popping into my mind. A few of these "spokesmen" have mentioned that they'd enjoy free trade and all sorts of great benefits of statehood once they were independent. No, no, no... sorry. Countries with diplomatic wings, enforceable borders, and legitimate claims to their lands get to make trade deals.

Is it just a fantasy to prohibit equal rights advances over the centuries? To punish liberals for all the havoc caused by the EPA in making our air and water safe? Or is it just an opportunity to deport millions of not-quite-like-minded voters from their own property and homes?
  • Just because a person is a veteran of our Armed Forces does not make that person intelligent.

    Look at John McCain.

To the vets who have been selectively interviewed by a selected media to produce a pre-formed media outrage statement, let's hear from a General.

"When the South raised its sword against the Union's Flag, it was in defense of the Union's Constitution."
    Confederate General John B. Gordon

Of course you won't understand that, based on your piteous pubic scrool edication and the approved memes and narratives you've digested with the pablum and Ovaltine.
  • "The election didn't turn out the way the conservative media said it worul and my butt-hurt is so bad, I don't want to play any more!!!! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA! WHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
  • OP, you lost me. Exactly WHAT are the Veterans saying?

If you look at the responses for any given state, there are plenty of signers from well outside that state and no doubt there are plenty of "well... bye!" thoughts being expressed.
  • Am a vet, not looking to seccede but not dead against the idea. Many of the various states have little in common aims and are to extent not helped by the union, as currently composed. Interestingly Puerto Rico just passed a non-binding measure to join the union as a state. A differently composed federal system would work well but in many ways I strongly think that the Federal government has become far to involved in the daily lives of citizens and become to powerful at the expense of both citizens and states.
  • 1) Create an artificial island in the middle of the Atlantic out of a year's worth of the nation's garbage.
    2) Ship all the secessionists there to form their own government.
    3) Peace and quiet!
  • I like one Veteran's comment "If you think about it that's why vets have been going to war for this country for 200 years, to make sure that if you have to gripe, you can gripe openly about it,"

People are letting off steam. I think these petitions will die a natural death in a few weeks.

    We still have slave states?
  • They think govt regulations and taxes are bad now wait til they see what kind of crap they have to deal with when they are their own country.
  • Go right ahead. The next time a hurricane causes billions in damages we will be kind and send you a few blankets.

All of the above. Now with extra punishments!
  • Clemkadidlefark: Look at John McCain.

McCain has been possessed by a body snatcher. He's not really the best one to look at.
  • Braggi: Go right ahead. The next time a hurricane causes billions in damages we will be kind and send you a few blankets.

So a very small majority of basically stupid people express n opinion which you don't agree with and your response is an implied genocide?
  • Great_Milenko: And if one of the slave states actually decides to leave, fark 'em. Let 'em go.

Do you mean Kansas? Or do you mean the states that were designated "Union states that permitted slavery" (Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma)?
