  • Some of those *seem* tasty.... as a side dish.
  • Vegans: telling Hindus they are cruel to animals since 1806.
  • I don't get the hate for vegetarianism/veganism. Yes, some of them can be obnoxious douchebags, but the same can be said for any group of people; they're no different or special. I happen to like vegetarian and vegan dishes as much as dishes that have meat in them. I would be comfortable at either group of people's dinner table, no matter what they served.

Just because Thanksgiving is traditionally loaded with meat, doesn't mean people who don't eat meat have to sleep through Thursday to get to Friday. That's ridiculous.

Why are you bringing up 'hate'? We just think this food is gross.

Because invariably when threads about vegetarians or vegans show up, commentary devolves into how stupid/gross/weird they are, even if the linked article is about food and not people. It was a general statement, not a specific comment on a specific post. It gets old, mostly because my boyfriend and I have a lot of friends of the non-meat eater persuasion, and while I don't doubt there are douchebag vegans, we certainly have never met any.

As for thinking the food is gross, I think that's a bit narrow-minded, but I also think cottage cheese looks like something a woman goes to the gynecologist for and I won't touch the stuff. So what do I know. There's a lot of food out there you may not know you like until you stick a fork in your mouth and chew. I used to think Brussels sprouts were disgusting until I tried them roasted, now I can't get enough of them. I also used to hate tofu, but one of my closest friends is vegan and cooks with it a lot, and rather than being rude when invited to dinner, I tried it and discovered I liked it.
  • These would go great with some turkey. I may include one or two of these next week...

"Chauvinism, in its original and primary meaning, is an exaggerated, bellicose patriotism and a belief in national superiority and glory. It is an eponym of a possibly fictional French soldier Nicolas Chauvin who was credited with many superhuman feats in the Napoleonic wars.

"By extension, it has come to include an extreme and unreasoning partisanship on behalf of any group to which one belongs, especially when the partisanship includes malice and hatred towards rival groups."

    In short, "human nature."

They won't let me hate anyone else, except lardasses. You wait until we get into a fat vegetarian thread, then I'll have some hate to throw around.
  • I'll see your vegan dishes and raise you a brined turkey.

    I win. :P

    Likewise here.

  • Why does it have to be about the food?

Thanksgiving is traditionally a time for family to come together to fight.

Me neither. If it tastes good, I'm game.

You have to eat the food. Then it makes sense.

That's the problem. It doesn't taste good. It's an abomination for any human to subject themselves to such torture.
  • Rosemary Lentil loaf? PUKE...VOMIT.... Thanks, ill be having deep fried turkey, chickens, giblet gravy and mashed potatoes, with stuffing and green bean casserole with those little dried onion things on top. Oh yes, and beer, lots of beer.
  • Also, let's look at some famous vegetarians: Hitler, Ghengis Khan, Charles Manson, Pol Pot, William MacDonald, Gladiators
  • There's a place for God's creatures - next to the potatoes and corn.

Anyway, not to disappoint y'all, but we already ate the best turkeys a month ago up here in Canuckistan.
  • F*ck vegetarians and f*ck vegans.
  • Also, beer can't be vegan because the little yeasty beasties are alive and drinking them is murder. Same with secondary fermentation whereby they get poisoned to death in alcohol, which is their own shiat. Would you say drowning a cow in manure or just eating it alive is humane? No? Sorry vegans, no alcohol for you.

You answered your own question. It's the obnoxious douche-bags that tend to be the most vocal, and are therefore become the de-facto representatives for any identifiable group. All it takes is for one smug, self-righteous vegan to demand that everyone replace their traditional turkey with tofurkey, and soon everyone associates vegans with close-minded bigotry.

    come at me, bro.

Seriously, though - all of these recipes can be de-veganed with a tiny bit of thinking (add meat, HURDURDEHUWUR)

    haters gonna hate.
