  • Ok, Thats it.

    We've lost it.

We had it, we lost it, start over.

I don't even know who we is, or what I am talking about, but this is truly how I feel. We messed up, back up, start over.
  • Cops were just doing the needful.
  • Good thing Obama isn't from India. The stuff I saw on Facebook during the election would surely call for life imprisonment of millions of Republicans. Wait, maybe it's bad he's not from India... Damn it.
  • And I thought our politicians & cops were questionable. Yikes.
  • Up against the wall...Farkers.

I just spit up oj on my ipad. Technology has saved a keyboard.
  • What scares me is that the Indians have essentially legislated political correctness into existence. If equality between the classes is to be reality, then the lower castes should be able to take insults just as much as they should be able to accept protections. Instead India seems to be ending up with a government of the Untouchables, by the Untouchables, and for the Untouchables. That's not what Gandhi had in mind when he fought for independence from the British.
  • I used to believe (and still do) that Twitter and Facebook were going to make all of us stupid. Now it seems that many of us will get to spend some time in the hoosegow before we're carted off to the mental ward.

Really? I know you're being facetious here, but consider the opposite case.

Whenever I think "Man, I really hate those guys, I wish the law could be changed to make it difficult for them", I remember that any law that can be used to suppress dissent that I don't approve of can also be used to suppress dissent that I do approve of.

Or, to put it another way, before I decide that I like something, I try to imagine how it might be abused by my worse nightmare of an administration. That almost always cools my enthusiasm for things like that.

Possibly, still cracks me up every time I see it in an email.
  • The good thing is that this has led to a massive backlash against the cops and the people who complained. A couple of Chief Justices have also written to the Chief Minister of that state asking for an explanation and if nothing is forthcoming (and it won't, there was nothing inflammatory about the status) to drop the charges. That, at the very least, will set a legal precedent.

    Could you explain this?

    This a lot.

Gandhi desired self-determination for the country of India. He did not want it to be a vassal state to the British Empire.

But at the same time he understood that you couldn't just let the human refuse in your country run the show. Smart people should lead. Uneducated bumpkins should be led. Otherwise you end up with a giant mess as the greedy commoners vote themselves all sorts of benefits at the expense of the middle and upper classes.
