  • First off...What an dumbass and second does Indiana really offer an Albino deer hunting license?? I can't imagine it is a very long season for those.
  • Idiot for hunting in residential area, but there's laws protecting albino deer?

    /huh

  • Donald Kenny II, 28, was witnessed shooting an albino deer with a shotgun after blinding the animal with the headlights of his pickup truck.
    ...
Kenny will likely be charged with Class B and C misdemeanors for shooting from a public road, shooting after legal deer-hunting hours, using artificial light to kill a deer, and illegally taking a deer without the proper license to shoot any antlerless deer. However, it is ultimately up to the Warrick County prosecutor's office to make the decision in how he will be charged.

    Dear Mr. Prosecutor,

Please charge this dimwit under all applicable statutes and recommend the maximum penalty for each where he is found guilty. Thank you.
  • TFA says it's not illegal to kill an albino deer in Indiana, or perhaps you were just trying to make a more trolltastic headline.

States that have laws against killing albino deer do so to prevent mass gangs of hunters trying to take the same deer -- hunting with or without permission or like this hunter and his "shining" the deer. It's also just bad PR; albino deer sightings get a lot of press and anti-hunting nuts get frothy when they hear about one being killed. I'm OK with those laws in both respects.
  • No Time To Explain: Idiot for hunting in residential area, but there's laws protecting albino deer?

No it's the you cannot shoot a deer from a public roadway, and you cannot blaze your KC lights to blind it so it stands still while you blast it. VERY poor sportsmanship.

Albino deer are fair game and generally do not last that long in the wild anyway due to lack of camouflage.
  • FTA
The DNR says that it is not against the law to shoot an albino deer in the state of Indiana, as long as the hunter has a proper license.

So they are treated just like any other deer if I am reading that right. People bag albino ones just like the rest. If anything I would think they would be an easy target.
  • The guy is a complete fool for:

    Shining a deer
    Shooting from the road
    Shooting in a residential neighborhood
Killing a deer without a license

And is a grade-A asshole, but not a criminal, for shooting an albino deer. TFA says it's not illegal to take albinos, and it isn't in most hunting states either, but it should be. They're rare, interesting to see in the wild, and with some luck, will breed and make a few more if left alone.
  • Englebert Slaptyback: Dear Mr. Prosecutor,

Please charge this dimwit under all applicable statutes and recommend the maximum penalty for each where he is found guilty. Thank you.

    +1

Idiots like this give sportsmen a bad name. He should also be brought up on civil charges for discharging a firearm within city limits (and in a residential neighborhood).

You missed "Blinding the deer with headlights so it would freeze and stand still."

It's not going to get rid of albino deer, anyway. It's a recessive trait so it continues on in the buck and doe and the half of their offspring that will carry the trait but not show it.
  • Damn ... I thought for sure this was gonna be in Seneca Falls. Quite a healthy population of Albino Deer on the old Army base. We also have a 1280 talk radio in Rochester ... or at least I think we still do.

// don't hit the AM radio much

And killing a very young male deer that did not have its antlers yet.

"The male albino deer, a small 'button buck' that hadn't yet grown antlers past its ears, had been spotted often in the area."

Sad that this dumbass just killed it for the novelty.
  • Do Albino Deer have white meat only?
  • Geeze, there was NO sport in that at all - Jack's it from the road, blinded it AND albino. What a prick this guy is.

I'm pretty sure that's what he meant by "shining a deer", unless he went all Jack Nicholson on it somehow.
  • The HOA didn't realize that giving the honorary title of Official Game Warden would actually lead to him shooting anything.

There is a good sized herd of them in the Fingerlakes that have made a home on protected land. Should one stray off the land, though, anyone who shoots it would be an epic asshole, and I hope would be shamed mercilessly.
  • BFD that it was albino. Albino, mellanistic, piebald, and regular--shoot them all. But do it legally and don't be a dumbass poacher.
  • I hope he gets the max for the rules he broke. Shooting in a residential neighborhood after jacklighting a deer - my god. And a buck that didn't even have horns at that.

If he'd missed that deer and hit someone that he didn't see beyond the lights...

    I disagree.

So long as it was taken legally and ethically, who cares? Hell, I myself would be tempted to take an albino or a piebald deer in preference to a "normal" specimen. I'd make myself a kick-ass quiver and possibles bag from that, maybe some moccasins for the distaffbopper.

Mark me as an epic asshole because I'd shoot one without hesitation.

There are so many farging deer where I live that they're a goddam nuisance. I can't grow anything in my garden because they come in and eat all of the plants. It's a rare night that I don't have to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting one....on my motorcycle. They wander the woods and all of the neighborhood dogs start barking their heads off all night long. F**k deer, I hate them.

Except on a plate, that is. They're tasty.
  • I read Newstalk 1280 in the link as New Stalk 1280 and was wondering if someone had invented a different way of tagging a deer.

You sound racist. All deer should be hunted equally, regardless of color, creed, or national heritage.

    /maybe some age discrimination though.
