  • How could have something that could have been dealt with in a clean and orderly quiet fashion end up turning into a biatch fight which makes both of them look like assholes?
  • Midland Realty and Development of Oak Brook Terrace

    There's you're problem

/Oak Brook is full of douche-nozzels
  • Withdrawal would kill these guys if they tried to sober up long enough to do anything about it. Gives them something to biatch and moan about as they pretend the bar stools are stuck up their asses. These aren't the kinds of veterans that fought their way up the beaches of Normandy. These were the guys deep in the hulls of supply ships making eyeglasses and peeling potatoes. When I got back from the war, I asked my grandfather, a decorated WW2 foot solider, if he'd take me for a beer at the VFW. He laughed and said if I ever set foot in one of those coward halls, he'd personally break his prosthetic leg off in my pansy ass.
  • I have a rule about veterans / VFW type causes: I'll support your cause the minute you stop insulting us all by using that "POW-MIA" flag which is based on myths, lies, and an ethically bankrupt appeal to emotions.

Smitty: Landlord tells VFW it can no longer fly the US and POW/MIA flags.
Actual Headline: VFW post in Glendale Heights can still fly flags
  • WGN-TV went to the offices of Midwest Realty's parent company, Equity Financial Group, but the doors were locked and despite numerous phone calls, no one seemed ready to make firm promises to the VFW.

Nice that they made sure to list all the jackasses involved. Have fun sifting through hate mail for the next, FOREVER. You deserve it.

Probability says it happened because both parties involved are assholes. Ask yourself how many big public fights over minor issues you've ever heard of where that wasn't the case.

Wow, are you for real? How did grandpa get food at the front? If his glasses broke where did he get new ones? Was George Marshall a coward?
  • First such place I've heard of that is not owned by members but rented from profit mongers. Maybe we can have a few more large wars so they can up membership and bankroll a hall of their own that is self-supported by wedding & party rentals.
  • Assholishness aside, there's a few keys in the article to what's REALLY going on. VFW has been there for decades. They probably have really low rent. There's a hookah bar next door- those tend to pop up when crumbling areas start to become trendy, right about the time artists start moving into nearby lofts for cheap studio space. Property values start to climb rapidly. Next thing you know, the building owner sells it to someone else. That "someone else" is a company. A real estate investment company. What they WANT to do is kick out the VFW, whose rent is not very high, and they probably can't raise it much, renovate the place, and rent it out for 5 times what they're getting from the VFW. However, they'd look like complete dicks if they simply kicked the VFW out. So instead, they decide to harass them until they leave on their own. However, asking veterans not to fly the flag is not a very good way to do this. Now that there's been media exposure, they'll have to live with the VFW being there for another few years before they can try to harass them out again.

I went to a VFW once. The main guy made a toast for the brave men who fought in Vietnam, and are STILL fighting there. Didn't go back.
  • If you read the letter shown in the video, this doesn't seem to have anything to do with the flag, unless there's more to the letter, but I'm sure they would have shown that part if there was.

The letter says they can't park their truck with a giant banner in the parking lot 24/7 which doesn't seem all that unreasonable as it is probably also a violation of local sign ordinances. The wording says that it is specifically prohibited by the " 'banners' and flags section of the lease. They even put quotes around the word "banner" to highlight it. I guess the vets got confused by the word flags and thought they were being asked to take that down too.

You sound like you know a lot about this subject.

On second thought, you sound like you got all of your info on this subject from one SOB who has an extreme dislike of said subject.

Thank you for your logical point of view. We now return you to your regularly-scheduled poo-flinging.

Ayup. And, reading the comments, it seems like at least one person there agrees, though he had to go full retard and exclaim that the landlord wants to rent the property to a "terrorist-supporting" company.

    \Never go full retard.

And if you look it up on Google street View you can see their truck which appears to be taking up multiple spaces in the strip mall parking lot
  • kinda tl;dr'd or tr;dl'd the article and it looked to be some sorta property dispute?
  • The VFW's around here will let anyone in and become a member if you feel like sitting with a bunch of miserable old drunks. I live in Eastern, PA. That might explain it.

    cool story, bro.
  • FTFA: Midland Realty and Development of Oak Brook Terrace allegedly told the vets they were leaving broken beer bottles behind, which they say come from a hookah bar next door.

That's either rotten spelling or a big disappointment.

    .
    wut?
  • So this is basically one side of a non-story.

Um, you did notice this was spentmiles posting, right? Fark should have a popup when you try to quote certain members posts. It would say "You do realize this guy makes shiat up to get a response or to play a word find game, right?" Spentmiles would one of those posters.

/applause for spentmiles - still reeling them in after all this time
