The bear was captured later on Saturday and taken to the provincial polar bear jail, a transformed military warehouse with 28 holding cells for stray bears, in Churchill. Conservation Manitoba says the animal is being assessed.
to give you an idea how far north this town is, today's forecasted high is 44 and tonight's forecasted low is 39. On Google maps, the ground is white instead of green.
It turns out that there's a whole tourism industry in this town during October when the bears start congregating around town. There are group tours to go around and see them. I'd take the kids to go do that if I had the time & money. That would be kind of awesome, at least as long as none of us is eaten by a bear. That would put a damper on things.

I went with my Mom a couple of years ago. It was incredible. Those bears are BIG. And very hungry. They would have loved to crack open the tundra buggy we were in to feast on some yummy tourists. One big male stood up on his hind legs and stuck his nose in a open window hoping for just a little taste.
That main street in Churchill is extremely wide - there's seriously nowhere to hide if a bear goes after you. This guy is very lucky.
