  • Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West

Who the fark are they when they're at home?

"PEGIDA is made up of an astonishingly broad mix of people, ranging from those in the middle of society to racists and the extreme right-wing," Cathedral Dean Norbert Feldhoff told Reuters.

So... like Tea Party Republicans but German? What's the thought process here?

"By switching off the floodlighting we want to make those on the march stop and think. It is a challenge: consider who you are marching alongside."

As far as quiet protests go I like this one. Good on them and the Opera house folks.

    Yeah, good on them both.

How are they supposed to see who they are marching next to in the dark?
  • I think there's a Nazi joke in here somewhere, just FYI to the thread.
  • First of all . . . beautiful cathedral, been there, wandered through the catacombs.  But, what are they going for here?  No Muslims, they should all be expelled?  That doesn't sound right (OK maybe it does for many).  Modified immigration rules based on xenophopic lines?  Not surprising, and probably what is going on.  Resolution?  I have no farking idea.  Broken situation becoming more broken as people's view of other humans harden to glass.

Let's just hope they don't start breaking glass at night...

You know who ELSE jokes about the Nazis?!

/Wait, I may have done that wrong...
  • Pragmatic approach: Don't start a race war and you don't need to rebuild your monumental buildings. In Austin, the spectators just moon the parade when the KKK marches. Talk of Nazis morphs into discussions of nice asses.

The completely destroyed and rebuilt Semperoper Dresden's Opera house.

  • BTW, cartoonist Tom Tomorrow did a "you know who else" joke the other week, leading me to believe even more that he's a Farker
  • This is more of a statement in support of the marchers since, if the Muslims have their way, all cathedrals will go dark.

Without the light, the marchers will Nazi the point!
  • When I was young, I used to honestly believe that the ignorance that led to the holocaust was a thing of the past, and that no modern nation would ever go down that road again.

Now, that I understand how wrong I was, I'm kind of sad.
  • Good for the cathedral people. Also, it's a beautiful, beautiful building. I was lucky enough to visit some years back. Fantastic doorways.

I can't imagine why any Germans would have a problem with this.

The Cathedral is going dark to protest AGAINST the xenophobes, not with them. They explain that in TFA.

Well, you know how primitives are - why, they'll even pledge their honor and allegiance to a piece of cloth!

False equivalence is hiding in the straw dispenser
  • So now its racist to peacefully march against people who made a choice (that has nothing to do with race) to believe in the most barbaric, cruel and murderous ideology since Nazism (ironically enough) that are emigrating en masse into Germany and trying to slowly to turn in into another medieval Muslim ghetto?

If anything these protesters learned their lesson all too well from Nazism.  You can't validate Islam anymore than you can validate Nazism, practically the only difference between the two is that there is a magical sky wizard in one but not the other.
  • The NERVE of those Germans trying to keep Germany German. Don't they *know* they're expected to allow their country to be invaded and changed in order to atone for the many CRIMES of western civilization???

Sweden and Norway are doing their part to surrender to the barbarian hordes and give up on that whole Enlightenment/Human Rights/Rule of Law thingy:

    http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/110514-725124-sweden-cedes- co ntrol-of-muslim-areas.htm?p=full

"A police report released last month identifies 55 of these "no-go zones" in Sweden. These zones are similar to others that have popped up in Europe in recent years. They formed as large Muslim populations emigrating to politically correct and tolerant European states refuse to assimilate and set up virtual states within a state where the authorities fear to tread."

    No, they're marching against Muslims.

And, you're the first person to claim that the march itself is racist, so you are to be congratulated on setting up and knocking down your own strawman so deftly.
  • I imagine most rational Germans find this march to be quite embarrassing.

    Oh?  I'm the first?

The rise of the group, Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West (PEGIDA), has shaken Germany's political establishment, prompting Chancellor Angela Merkel to say in her New Year address that its leaders were racists full of hatred and citizens should beware being used.

I'd take your report a bit more seriously if it actually linked to the report in question, or to anything corroborating the various claims it makes.

I know that you're probably old and lived through the Cold War, and as such just don't feel right unless you can whip yourself into a hate frenzy over some anonymous, scary foreign presence. Out here in the real world, we know that Muslims are surprisingly rare outside the Middle East and, while some are assholes, the vast majority just want to be left alone.

3% of the Swedish population identifies as Muslim. Sweden will be fine.
