  • I live a couple miles away. Those houses are below Beach Level. Literally you step down from the pavement to the concrete outside their houses. They put up a sand berm but... Well if you build next to the ocean below Beach Level, you're gonna have a bad time
  • Semisonic and Seal punchlines for headlines. How soon until we have a Cranberries pun headline?
  • Yes, but crop yields look promising.

  • They're never gonna survive
  • With so much water in the LBC, it's kinda hard being A-R-I-D.

I'm up in Ventura and our foothills are expecting 5-7" within 36 hours. Camarillo Springs is under evacuation.

Yeah I know. And I'm up on the far NW coast. Your storm is what we'd just call Thursday. And last Thursday. And the week before that too. Sand is going to do what it pleases, which is why nobody with any sense lives right at sea level. Not to say that there aren't people that do but...don't ask for FEMA money every 15 years when you were warned already. Oh then you have to worry about the rivers and getting cut off from civilization when half a mountain closes the highways.

    I get your drift though....

"Volunteers filled approximately 600 sandbags Wednesday night. Residents can pick them up for free at the 8th Street parking lot just north of the Seal Beach Pier."

Sweet, free labor to provide free sandbags for their ~$1 million pieces of property.

Hang on, what's that mother in law shiat shack up there for only $260k?
  • I remember when they had a huge storm back in '98. I was visiting my Grandparents in Leisure World and we went down to the Seal Beach Pier.

It was fascinating. They had a tractor trying to move sand around to prevent the water from pooling. They managed to break a piece out to get the water running from a large pool. Naturally, a boogie boarder jumed into the flume and was riding it.

But the waves were intense. There was water rushing across the entire beach and into nearby parking lots. I've never seen anything like it.

Here is the listing for that $1.1M piece of property just NE of the pier. No thanks.

Those are little cottages on postage stamp lots.
  • 600 is not a lot of sandbags. Considering what's at risk, 600,000 is more like it.
  • We will survive

  • I have been noticing these Aqua Dams being placed around Orange County.
Kind of funny, we have been in a drought for many years now we are pumping water into a long balloon to protect us from water.

  • I dont why this song is stuck in my head...

The wise man built his house upon the rock,The wise man built his house upon the rock,The wise man built his house upon the rock,And the rains came tumbling down.
The rains came down, and the floods came up,The rains came down, and the floods came up,The rains came down, and the floods came up,And the house on the rock stood still.

The foolish man built his house upon the sand,The foolish man built his house upon the sand,The foolish man built his house upon the sand,And the rains came tumbling down.

The rains came down, and the floods came up,The rains came down, and the floods came up,The rains came down, and the floods came up,And the house on the sand washed away.
