CruiserTwelve: There are several lawful reasons why a cop can search a vehicle without a warrant, but this incident doesn't appear to contain any of them. If the cop actually had a reason for a warrantless search, why didn't he explain that to the vehicle's owner instead of stopping his search and walking away? My guess would be that the guy is known to the cops and the cop was doing an unconstitutional exploratory search expecting to find something incriminating. Would have been interesting to see how he explained the search is he had found something.
